Brokenness as a trait, finds context in the disposition of an individual to God’s will and commands. It defines a crucial characteristic of a Christian who is aware of his sinful status, is repentant and positively sensitive to the creator’s magnanimity in forgiving sins and constantly offering the sinner, opportunities to make amends.

Absolute faith and trust in God, a deep reverence for His personality, and a truly contrite heart are essential precursors to developing a broken, spiritually mature spirit.

Scripture provides litany accounts of men and women who have positively affected Christendom and mankind by their humble submissions to God’s plans, His designs and instructions, regardless of the challenges such a disposition inspires.

It takes a broken spirit, a humble heart, to forge any meaningful bond with the Creator. As David the Psalmist declares, “the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psa. 68: 18).

A broken spirit and a contrite heart, God will not despise. Psalm 51
