Overwhelmed by his sudden stupendous wealth and desperation to succeed Lagos state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, the State Commissioner for Works, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has thrown himself into a spending spree with the latest coming out from his dollar dispensing ATM running into thousands of US dollars for leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the 377 wards across the state.

iReports-ng.com can authoritatively reveal that Dr Kadri who is the son of an Ogun state monarch, Oba Mufu Hamzat has totally changed the denomination of campaign funds from naira to dollars two clear years ahead of the 2015 governorship race in Lagos. Beside handing out a minimum of $200,000 to each of the major traditional rulers in the three senatorial districts in the state in the last three months, the young Hamzat in the last two weeks turned to APC leaders in all the 377 wards in the state to show his generousity.

A very close ally of the aspiring state official told iReports-ng.com on the phone today that “the commissioner (Hamzat) has emerged as the favourite of Governor Fashola to succeed him in 2015 and that is why he has been so empowered through contracts worth billions of naira coming out through his ministry in the last two years. In actual fact, whoever will contest the 2015 governorship election with him must be ready to waste at least N20 billion, that is the plain truth.”

Our source further revealed that Hamzat has just bought and distributed 1,000 rams to party leaders and faithful in all the 377 wards in the state ahead of the coming muslim festival. Besides, the aspirant has equally sent $2,000 to each of the wards to complement the rams, bring the total figure of dollars sent to the party leaders to $754,000. “In addition to that, the commissioner has given $5,000 each to about 50 party leaders going on hajj in addition to what was given to other muslim party members going on the current hajj. Some got $2,000 each but the least got $500 depending your position and relevance in your ward”, another who is a serving Commissioner in the state disclosed while corroborating claims by the earlier source.

“With the way he (Hamzat) is throwing around this dollars, some of us in this government have turned to spectators. We wonder if this will not open the gap for our political opponents to start calling for contract figures of all the jobs passing through our Works Ministry and even outright probe of the Fashola’s administration”, the top state official who is bitter about the rate Kadri dispenses dollars. In an attempt to taunt this reporter, the source added that “even some of your colleagues, journalists in Nigeria are not spared from this dollar generousity because those who have met him also confirmed leaving with wads of dollars in dropped in envelopes for them.”

Attempts to seek Hamzat’s reaction to the allegations failed as calls to his mobile number were not picked while the phone got switched off following our persistence.

Barely a week after iReports-ng.com opened the lid off the heavy spending of Lagos state Commissioner for Works, Kadri Olufemi Hamzat in his desperate bid to succeed the incumbent Governor Babatunde Fashola in 2015, the governorship aspirant has defied Fashola’s advice for him to lie low for now and restrain himself from further financial inducement of party leaders.

Fresh facts showing that Hamzat has ignored Fashola’s counsel emerged today when the state Commissioner sent trailer loads of bags of rice to hall in Oko-Oba, a surburb of Agege local council area of the state and directed one of his campaign coordinators, Hon. Aki Fadayomi to distribute them in five bags to each of the 377 wards across the state. This is in addition to the hundreds of rams and thousands of US dollars already sent to the All Progressives Congress, APC leaders in all the wards under the pretence of sending them eid-el-kabir gifts.

Hamzat’s Campaign Coordinator, Hon. Fadayomi had in a text message to the party chairmen in all the 57 council areas of the state today announced another round of largesse from the state commissioner for Works who has of late engaged in a spending spree in dollar denomination to bribe his way to the state’s governorship seat in 2015.

According to the text message, which was mailed to iReports-ng.com by more than 20 Lagos APC chieftains who have been contacting our US office since our first story on the dud on October 6th to express their displeasure over the aspirant’s attitude, Hon. Fadayomi directed the party leaders to pick the bags of rice for their wards from a designated point.

“Please Collect 5 (Five) bags of rice per ward and LG Exco from Fidimaye Hall, 42 Olayiwola street, Oko Oba. These are Ileya Gifts from Hon. Commissioner for Works, Dr Kadri O. Hamzat”, the message sent out today by Hon. Aki Fadayomi on behalf of Hamzat read. One of the party chairmen who had already gone to the hall to pick the five bags for his local govt area said the number of bags of rice in the hall cannot be less than 5,000 bags “eventhough by my calculation, all the 377 wards are to pick 1,885 bags from the mountain of rice there which means that others will still go to some other places.”
