RE: ASUU STRIKE: COMPARISON OF SALARIES BETWEEN LECTURERS WHO WORK ALL THEIR LIFE AND LEGISLATORS OF A 4-YEAR TENURE.
Imagine the outrageous trend of a hardworking lecturer who does not earn a senator’s salary in his/her entire working life. What do senators do? Do they really represent us or they represent their family?
That's why some people go extra miles to kill just to get into political offices in Nigeria. Below are what legislators earn in just one month:
Basic Salary (BS):
N2,484,245.50
•Hardship Allowance =
50% of Basic Salary:
N1,242,122.75
•Constituency allowance
200% of BS: N4,968,509.00
•Furniture Allowance:
300% of BS

•Newspaper allowance:

•Total monthly package:
N29,479, 749.00.
If government can pay each of Nigeria's 108 senators over N29M, why being economical (and or political) with ASUU's demand? Can Senators qualify academically without lecturers?
Anyway, many of them do not know the sanctity of education and probably never saw the four-walls of a university, as they rush to forge certificates and diplomas to run elections or get appointments, and remain under the gag of universities' admin and registry officials who help them to fabricate "To whom it may concern" throughout their tenure of service.
ASUU, I fully support your strike until all your demands are fully met. As for NANS, you using the funds of your godfathers to stop the strike is a betrayal of what you supposedly represent. We can't tell if they were paid. They are definitely not acting on behalf of the Nigerian students if they can't join forces in making the standard of education in Nigeria improve.
A lesson from this lingering education crisis is that we all should learn to fulfil promises. Don't agree on terms you can't fulfill. May God help our leaders to understand this! Aluta continua !!!

Its rather sad but please, please & please, if a lecturer wants such pay, its simple! Go join politics. The politicians are heartless blood sucking demons who as you stated even kill to get there whereas on the other hand our lecturers are meant to mould & train the students'. To abandon work for almost four months now is a betrayal of their work ethics.

Not that I'm exonerating & don't expect Govt. to meet ASUU's demands but putting the whole sector to a halt is sheer wickedness

If this salary analysis of the senators is true, it literally means that a senator earns 5 times the annual salary of a professor montly.

the per annum of a Prof is below 6Million including all allowances. Reference google CONUASS II and check grade 7.

while a senator takes 29million plus montly if his or her salaries is consolidated

Ask yourself if it is fair to have a minimum wage of 18,000 naira as a nation and someone else is taking 29million.

don't be deceived that wide gap will forever be a problem in this country unless its been addressed. Do they generate income or ideas like Dangote group CEO who was earns 18Million montly? If yes, then give it to them.

@op, this is not an excuse for the prolonged strike. If lecturers wants that kind of treatment, they should resign and go into politics. I am not saying the amount received by those senators is justifiable but nevertheless there is freedom and nobody is restricted to certain type of work. Gej was once a lecturer, he quit and joined politics, yaradua too. So it not an excuse at all. Where in other part of the worl u hear lecturer going on strike. I think it is high time university get its full autonomy.
