Three cities are said to have expressed interest to host the Super Four of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) scheduled to hold at the close of the on-going season.

The Super Four wil also accommodate an all stakeholders' talk shop and capacity building aimed at fostering greater consensus.

Salihu Abubakar, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the League Management Company (LMC) declined to reveal the bidding cities but only said, "It is not Lagos, it is not Aba and it is not Kano".

He then said that the Super Four has been re-packaged to bring greater excitement to fans and benefits to potential sponsors.

On the date for the tournament, Abubakar said it will hold one week after the close of the 2013 season. "The four top teams of the Glo Premier League will enjoy a week's break at the end of the on-going season and return to a yet to be agreed venue for the Super Four", disclosed the LMC official.

One of the innovations of the new Super Four, he further disclosed will be the use of electronic advertising boards on the perimeters.

"One of the new things on the plate for the Super Four will be the use of electronic perimeter advertising panels which will enhance the ambience at the venue and also deliver quality value to our sponsors", explained Abubakar.

While pointing out that the Super Four is open to sponsorship, he added that such sponsors will be brands and businesses that are not in competition with the title sponsor of the League.

A highpoint of the activities during the Super Four is the All Stakeholders Meeting that will allow the LMC to meet with a wide spectrum of the League interest groups ranging from the Nigeria Football Federation, Club Owners, Club Media Officers, and Clubs' Supporters.

Also listed for the meetings are Club Medical Officers, Match Commissioners, Match Referees and Sports Journalists.

"In some cases, we will be discussing with some stakeholders towards achieving clarity and building consensus for future operations of the League and at the same time developing capacity for enhanced service delivery by key operators of the League such as the Media, Club specialist officers, the Referees and the Match Commissioners", he concluded

Does this imply that the winner of the league will be determined in the Super 4 mini-league?

^Nope, it's usually after the league have ended, then the clubs that ended among the first four will play another championship called the Super Four, which is a pre season tournament.
Last season Kano won the premier league but where beaten in the finals of the Super four to Heartland.

I'm asking cos there was a time the winner of the league was determined at the super 4 competition. If what you said is the truth then the super 4 is useless. What they should have done is to follow international best practices by pairing the winners of the league and the FA cup to play each other. Not at the end of the season but before the new season begins.

No na, it won't be fair. Let's take for example Kano Pillars won the league and El-Kanemi came fourth in the table and then wins the Super Four, will it be fair naming El-Kanemi the league champions?
The Super Four is a different competition with its own trophy. And also note that the 2013/2014 Nigeria Professional Football League new season will start by November 22 (3-4 weeks after this season ends), so they just have to rush it all in order to finish it up before the World cup starts in June.

Ok, i remember now. The Super 4 was used to decide the winner of the league when the league was divided into two groups(North and South). The top two teams from each of the zones and the competed for the premier league crown. I guess it won't make sense now since all the teams play in one group/
