Hehehe, talk about the hunter being hunted. Seriously, this is shameful and condemnable; I hope he turns a new leaf when he's out of the prison.

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, presided over by Justice Ibrahim Buba, yesterday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, a 31-year-old warder, Frank Obi, over his involvement in the supply of restricted narcotics, cannabis, to inmates of the Kirikiri Maximum Prisons.

Justice Buba, while reprimanding the convict who had pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of being a shame to lawful authorities, maintained that “following the guilty plea entered by the accused, he is hereby convicted as charged, and accordingly, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment without option of fine.

“It was indeed very shameful that a prison official who knows the values of the prison system, and ought to be a custodian of the law is now the perpetuator of crime. The sentence shall take effect from May 6 when the convict was arrested while the convict is to be jailed at the Ikoyi Prisons.”

It would be recalled that Obi was arraigned on October 9, 2013 on a one-count charge of illicit drug deal.

In his review of the facts, counsel to the prosecution, Kalu Orji, informed the judge that the convict committed the offence on May 6, 2013 at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons.

According to the prosecutor, the convict, who worked as a warder, met his waterloo when the prison authorities apprehended him for sneaking in about 3.8 kilograms of cannabis Sativa, also known as Indian hemp, to some inmates.

The lawyer also informed the judge that the convict concealed the narcotic in a noodles carton to avoid suspicion. He also suggested before the court that the convict had been in the business of collecting money from inmates in exchange for the illicit drug. The prosecutor said the offence contravenes the provision of Sections 11 (c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
