This is not yam balls! This is yam akara

To do yam balls boil normal yams, mash it, put diced onions, pepe, salt and beat eggs and pour. Mix well and make balls of it and deep fry! That's yam balls!

Flow11: wow,i bet this one would taste nice too,tnx simplamazing bt the one i use to know is kind of differnt fron this one...there something that had to do with boiling the yam, rolling in egg before frying.
By that you mean yamarita. Its easy to cook. After you might have boiled your yam u add a little flour to it so it can stick or use any of the frying sticky recipe. Turn it in a mixed egg and fry.

This is how I prepare my yam balls

Ingredients:
Yam (quantity as desired, 1big tuber will make abt 20 balls or so)
Canned fish or minced meat (its actually tastier with fish)
Fresh pepper and onion (grounded)
Spices (maggi, salt, curry, powdered cumin, powdered black pepper)
Eggs
Oil
Bread crumbs/flour
Mortar and pestle

1. Peel the yam and cut into desired shape and size.

2. Add a little salt and cook until soft.

3. Using the mortal and pestle, marsh the yam softly, to get a loose form of it. Don't pound hard, it will turn to pounded yam.

4. Add the grounded pepper and onion, fish or meat, and spices (to taste) to the yam. You can put 1 or 2 eggs to make it little sticky, if its not.

5. Mix well and make into small balls (they are easier to fry) and roll them in the bread crumbs and put aside. NB: the breadcrumbs helps keep it in place.

6. Meanwhile heat the oil, when hot enough, dip the yam balls into beaten egg and deep fry until golden brown.

7. Eat warm or cold with juice or tea

That's it.......but unfortunately I don't have a picture to share. But I have a picture of sumtin nyc to share with you guys if you are interested.

Ojojo is definitely different from yam balls. I recall the yam ball recipie from secondary school home economics under the topic "food preservation/preventing food wastage". Making yam balls is a way of utilizing the previous day's leftover yam via reheating it, mashing it up, then seasoning to taste with e.g vegetables, minced meat, maggie. . . Finally, the product is rolled up into a ball and dipped in raw egg after which its fried. Enjoy.

This looks absolutely divine. tongue tongue tongue Seeing as I've got all the ingredients on the list (and more), I most certainly will try my hands out on this dish, this weekend.

A couple of questions though:

~ Can normal yams be used to make this also, or must it absolutely be water yam(s)? Never eaten water yams, so I'm sure how to handle this. Must it be boiled first, or do I grate it from raw?

~ When you say the yam should be "grated", do you mean proper grating as is done with Okro?
Re: How To Make Yam Balls by elegant206: 10:57pm On Sep 28, 2014
Op is right but forget to mention type of yam,(ewura yam in yoruba)and water yam in english.then must be grated with okra for best result.
