The man gave valid reasons and he didn't altogether withdraw his support for the conference, he merely said he wished to be replaced by a younger member of the patriot.
Although I still with tinubu on this one that its an exercise in futility already.

Its important for every Nigerian graduate to have a fair knowledge of virtualy anything been said around him/her especially on socio-political and economic matters; be that as it may, we all mst not make comments on all issues we come accross especially in the social media. Well, I don't think the elder statesman did the right thing by ridiculing his appointment in the media. How can he assume that GEJ knew about his battle with prostate cancer? And even if GEJ knew and got a wrong impression of a well managed health condition from their previous meetings, a father like Nwabueze would stop at giving reasons for his inability to chair the committee and recommend a replacement in private and not openly make it look, in the media, like the President lacks brain.

Its hard to believe that Nwabueze spoke in this manner. I want to believe the press twisted the reporting of the interview to embarass GEJ. Some of them get paid by APC folks.

“It is an appointment for a younger person, not for an old man of 83 years afflicted by ill-health,” the elder statesman said in a statement signed by him and distributed on Thursday.

According to him, the President should have requested the Patriots to nominate someone to the committee rather than asking him who is battling with a terminal illness at a very old age to come be part of the committee.

Prof. Nwabueze who leads the Patriots-a socio-political association of elderly Nigerians-claimed that the group got a hint of the planned conference during a meeting with President Jonathan in July and expected him to ask the group for someone to be on the committee.

Expressing his displeasure with the nomination, the octogenarian said “I never expected to be appointed............

I dont blame Jonathan for the appointment at all.I blame our collective reasoning and the manner we approach national issues.Other past Presidents would taken the same decision by appointing Nwabueze.Why do we recycle old hands?Is it that bad that there are no younger and vibrant youths who could fill these positions?Must our collective resources and decision-making be centred among a few?These are the issues.I applaud the octogenarian for rejecting the post but he would have done so in private.Above all,it is high time we allow younger generations be involved in nation building.
