Saint Malachy (circa 1094 – 1148), an Irish Prelate and Reformer, greatest of the successors of St. Patrick, born in Armagh, was ordained a priest in 1119. He was acclaimed to have restored ecclesiastical discipline in Ireland, unified the church there, and brought about the use of the Roman liturgy instead of the Celtic. He was canonized (declared a Saint) in 1199. He was the first Irish Saint to be canonized by a Pope. Saint Malachy was said to have some supernatural powers and the gifts of prophecies. In 1139 while on a pilgrimage to Rome to visit the Pope, he got a revelation from God where he saw 112 Popes that will reign in succession till the Great Tribulation, heralding the End Time as revealed in the Book of Revelations in the Bible. According to his predictions, Pope Benedict XVI is the 111th that means the current Pope is the 112th, hence signaling the last Pope before the Tribulation. He even stunned his followers by giving accurate predictions of the Popes he talked about, for example, he named Benedict XV as ‘religion devastator de popular’ and legend have it that during his reign (1914 – 1922), the Christian population were decimated by almost 25 million especially during the exploits of the Bolshevik Party (which later metamorphosed into Communist Party) in Russia. He also said something about Pope John Paul II, the one he named “the Sun’s full eclipse” and true to that, the Pope was born in the year 1920 when there was total eclipse of the Sun and also died in 2005 another year of eclipse. Saint Malachy predicted the last Pope as ‘Peter the Roman’, he said that during the reign of this Pope, the Roman Catholic Church will be subjected to it’s worst persecution, the City of Seven Hills will be destroyed and the Dreadful Judge will judge the people and the end will come.
