Plot against Bankole thickens as South-West Reps swell opposition

The plot to unseat Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, is thickening by the day as members from the South West are now said to be active in their bid to actualise his removal.

The impeachment scare is resurfacing at a time many are thinking the issue was fading out.

The grouse of those behind it, it was gathered, is that Bankole is not adequately representing the interests of the various caucuses in the Presidency and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where most of them belong.

They are said to be further piqued by the Speaker's delay, according to Minority Leader of the House, Mohammed Ndume, in an interview with Daily Independent, in naming new chairmen for the House standing committees.

Office of the Majority Leader of the House, Tunde Akogun, was busy at the weekend as the final membership list of members into the committees was being put together.

It is billed to be made public tomorrow.

In Ogun State alone where the Speaker hails from, Dave Salako and Gbenga Oduwaiye are famous House members, who may give Bankole a good fight if for any reason he falls from the throne.

Those plotting Bankole's fall are further hinging their grouse on the Speaker's continued delay in empowering the House version of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Constitution Review to join the Senate in amending the 1999 Constitution.

Besides, the 26-man ad hoc committee in the House to look into activities in the oil sector within the last four years has not been empowered to begin work, according to them.

Ndume said Bankole's opponents in the other parties in the House are also accusing the Speaker of attempting to renege on his campaign promise to them that if voted into the office of Speaker, he would dissolve all standing committees to favour them.

But the Speaker's allies, Ndume said, are those lobbying Bankole not to keep his words.

If they succeed, according to him, it would be an affront on the opposition members in the House, who, he said, are currently waiting on the Speaker to "do the right thing."

"We have done placements of members on the committees, and we did it mathematically, calculating the numbers of constituencies in the zone, number of PDP members in a particular zone and number of minority in a particular zone," he noted.

How sure are you that saints will come in when they go? They are all the same and hating on a brother because they want to achieve their selfish dream. the next thing you'll hear now is that they've killed him with juju. There is nothing worse than enemies from home.
