Maku-Labaran• Confab has nothing to do with 2015

THE Federal Government has identified about 46,821 ghost workers in 215 ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) while ₦118.9 billion has been saved from payroll cost since the implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
Also, government has recovered tax arrears in the sum on ₦704.8 million just as tax investigation and enforcement activities have led to the recovery of over ₦10.65 billion.
Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, who disclosed this Tuesday while briefing journalists in Abuja, noted that about 153,019 Federal Government workers are on IPPIS as of January 2013 while efforts are ongoing to bring in other 321 MDAs not yet on IPPIS. He added that the government has put in place a system, which enables it to monitor the movement of funds in all MDAs.

The minister observed that the present economic policy of government has placed Nigeria on a sustainable path of development, stressing that Nigeria in 2012 received the highest Foreign Direct Investment in Africa to the tune of $7 billion.
According to him, inflation dropped to 8 per cent in September 2013 from 12.4 per cent in May 2011, External Reserve increased from $32.08 billion in May 2011 to $48.4 billion as of May 2013 while the Excess Crude Account rose from about $4 billion in May 2011 to about $6 billion in May 2013.
Maku pointed out that about $1 billion from the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) has been earmarked for investment in the three areas of Stability Fund, Infrastructure Fund and Future Generation Fund.
The minister said that the proposed national conference has nothing to do with the 2015 elections.
According to him, President Goodluck Jonathan is a performing President and therefore has nothing to fear about 2015 if the election is going to be based on performance.
Answering questions from journalists in Abuja, Maku said that the proposed dialogue is not meant to disintegrate the country but provide an opportunity for all ethnic nationalities to look at all aspects of our relationship in order to find out areas that have worked and areas that need to be improved upon.

No! the money should be used to fix infrastructure and other capital projects.
Civil servants and other government workers are already eating 75% of the budget and do not deserve more.
This is the reason I strongly kick against ASUU demanding for more allowances because I know they are already feeding fat from govt.

U Notice that each time the government finds ghost workers nobody seems to get probed for it, the money being "saved" by the government who has been eating it? Or was it actually going to the "ghost workers" in dere graves. Dis is not fighting corruption dis is just patching 1 loop hole just to open another. Some1 has to go to jail!!!

The civil service is the foundation of any modern society, as policies are meant to be implemented by them.

The Nigerian Civil service on the other hand is the bedrock of corruption. and they get away with it.

You people are looking for ghosts, when the real looters of the treasury are walking freely amongst you? You must be jokers! Who created the ghost-workers? Is it not the same real looters of the treasury in action?

All I will say is that, government is not serious about fighting corruption, thats all.

EXACTLY!

When you have a person like Jonathan ruling the country, then obviously they would not see the need to find and arrest those who were stealing the money.
