The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the positions below at the Institute’s Headquarters, Ibadan.

Position Position/Responsibilities
Qualification, Experience and Skills

Senior Research Supervisor

2 year renewable contract

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

• Coordination of in vitro yam and cassava breeders’ lines processing and conservation, including activities relating to in vitro cassava breeders’ lines and liaising with cassava breeders.
• Processing of yam and cassava breeders’ lines new introduction from field
• Supervision of acclimatization and post flask management of yam and cassava breeders’ lines
• Coordination and processing of Yam and cassava breeders’ lines sample for indexing
• Coordination of request and distribution of breeders’ lines
• Sorting of necrotic and contaminated breeders’ lines PTC plantlets
• Media preparation for in vitro yam and cassava breeders’ lines
• Breeders’ lines data management
• Participate in in vitro breeders’ yam and cassava clonal crops experiments on field multiplication, evaluation and characterization


• BSc / HND in plant science , Microbiology or Chemistry or any related discipline

• Minimum of 3 years post NYSC relevant working experience on a similar role

The ideal candidate must

• Be able to follow instructions and work independently where necessary.

• Be able to use laboratory equipments and understand basic laboratory techniques

• Possess good organizational skills and demonstrate ability to work under pressure.

• Be available to work outside office hours and for extended hours where necessary

Laboratory Technician I (in vitro bank)

2 year renewable contract

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

• Monitoring of musa in vitro conservation
• Musa in vitro processing from sucker
• Musa in vitro plantlets acclimatization and post flask management
• In vitro genebank processing of all RTB, IITA mandate crops
• Subculturing of tissue culture plantlets
• Sorting of necrotic and contaminated TC plantlets
• Field sampling for in vitro plants introduction
• In vitro plants safe duplication assistant
• Plant culture media preparation
• Musa in vitro data monitoring

• OND In general Agric or Laboratory Technology or the equivalent.

• Minimum of 1 year relevant working experience in any Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory


Laboratory Attendant II (in vitro bank)
2 year renewable contract

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

• Conservation of yam and cassava breeders’ lines
• Processing of yam and cassava breeders’ lines
• In vitro plant tissue culture processing of all RTB, IITA mandate crops including sorting of necrosis and contaminations
• Assist in packing of in vitro plants for safe duplication
• Assist in preparation of plant culture media
• Breeders’ lines data entry

• WAEC O level certificate or Senior School certificate (SSCE)
• 3 years relevant working experience with plant tissue culture.


Laboratory Attendant I
Seedbank (3 positions)

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

Seed Cleaning and sorting from the cold store for seed germination

Participate in viability test and packaging for Distribution.

Carry out other duties assigned by the supervision.
Senior School certificate (SSCE) with 1 year relevant working experience in inventory management and Gene banking activities
Laboratory Attendant II
Seedbank

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:
Retrieve and relocate seed lot samples

• Retrieve and relocate seed lots in the cold stores.

• Manage seed lot locations and arrangement in the cold store.

• Fumigate harvested seeds for processing.

• Update seed distribution data on the genebank online inventory.

• Carry out other duties assigned by the supervision.


Senior School certificate (SSCE) with 3 year relevant working experience in general laboratory maintenance

The ideal candidate must
• Be honest and hardworking;
• Be a good team player and be able to follow instructions;
• Be energetic and able to work under pressure
Research Technician I
Seedbank





Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

• Coordination of field and screen house regeneration and characterization of legumes.

• Data collection, entry and management. Coordination of seed processing activities.

• Pollination and hybridization activities of cowpea and the wild relatives and other legumes.

• Supervision of field planting activities for wild vigna species and other legumes.

• Morphological characterization of crop wild relatives (CWR).


Perform any other duty assigned by the supervisor.
OND in general Agric and at least 1 year hands-on experience in field management.

• Be a good team player and be able to follow instructions;
• Be energetic and able to work under pressure.

Fieldworker II
Seedbank (2 positions)

2 year renewable contract
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

• Field and screen house assistant on Planting for regeneration, herbicide and insecticide application.
• Data collection and entry for screen house and field regeneration and multiplication activities.
• Characterization of maize and miscellaneous legumes.
• Maize pollination and Characterization.
• Perform any other duty assigned by the supervisor.

• Senior School certificate (SSCE) with at least 2 years experience in screen house management data collection and Gene banking.

The ideal candidate must
• Be honest and hardworking.
• Be a good team player and be able to follow instructions;
• Have adequate knowledge about the maintenance culture of maize genetic resources field bank.
• Be energetic and able to work under pressure



Research Technician I

2 year renewable contract


Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

• Assist in the maintenance plans of the cassava field bank;
• Assist in the supervision of the activities of workers in the cassava field group;
• Liaise with breeders and the tissue culture group for safe duplication of crop materials.
• Assist in the collection of agronomic data collection team in the GRC cassava field.
• Data entry of data generated in the field bank.
• Coordinate the agronomic data collection team in the yam field;
• Carry out other duties assigned by the supervision.
OND in Agric or Mech Engr with at least 1 year experience in field management.

The ideal candidate must
• Be honest and hardworking.
• Be a good team player and be able to follow instructions;
• Have adequate knowledge about the maintenance culture of cassava genetic resources field bank.
• Be energetic and able to work under pressure.

Fieldworker (4 Positions) Fieldbank

2 year renewable contract
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

• Assist in the maintenance plans of the cassava field bank;
• Assist in the collection of agronomic data collection team in the cassava field;
• Carry out herbicide and insecticides application in the field.
• Carry out other duties assigned by the supervisor
Senior School certificate (SSCE) with at least 1 year experience in general field maintenance

The ideal candidate must
• Be honest and hardworking;.
• Be a good team player and be able to follow instructions;
• Be energetic and able to work under pressure.
