It is no surprise that robbers and hoodlums now reign supreme at the Mile 2 bridge area of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos. The police appear to be more interested in pursuing and arresting 'okada' or commercial motorcyclist in that area.

The hoodlums usually operate in traffic gridlock at night dispossessing commuters of valuables and damaging vehicles in the process. They freely make use of hammer, knife, gun or any weapon to dispossess victims of valuables like money, ATM cards and phones.

The hoodlums also operate in day time obtaining money from car owners under duress.
The police must wake up to their responsibilities rather than focus on the daily arrest and extortion of banned motorcyclists.
