PoliticsPresidency Disowns Salkida, Says His Information Is `fake’ by 14Ebisco(op): 8:10am On Apr 15, 2018
The Presidency has dismissed Ahmed Salkida’s latest information that only 15 of the remaining 113 abducted Chibok schoolgirls in captivity of Boko Haram were believed to be alive.

Sakilda, a Nigerian journalist believed to be based in Dubai and self-acclaimed negotiator in the Chibok girls saga, had made this disclosure in a series of tweets posted on his handle, @ContactSalkida, on Saturday.

He said the 15 surviving girls had been married off, “indoctrinated and might no longer be interested in returning home.

Salkida, who claimed to be part of the negotiating team for the release of the girls since the era of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, enjoined the Buhari administration to ‘’demand for proof of life, as it carries out negotiations to secure the release of the remaining girls still in captivity”.

However, Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, debunked Salkida’s claims in a statement in Abuja on Saturday.

The presidential aide stated that Salkida was neither involved in the processes that resulted in the release of the over 100 Chibok girls nor in the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the remaining Chibok girls in captivity.

He said: ““Following the numerous press enquiries on the information contained in the series of tweets by Mr Ahmed Salkida, we wish to reiterate that the information is not known to the officials of this administration either from the captors of the Chibok girls or the international intercessors who are working with us.

“”We wish to confirm that Mr Salkida is not involved, on behalf of the Nigerian government in the processes leading to the release of the over 100 Chibok Girls that have returned to their families, so far , and is not involved in the current processes to secure the release of those still held in captivity.’’

It would be recalled that President Buhari had on Friday reassured the parents of the school girls, that were abducted from Government Girls Secondary School Chibok, Borno, that “their daughters will never be forgotten or abandoned to their fate”.

The President, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, noted that despite four long years since they were taken away by terrorists the government would continue its efforts to ensure their safe return to their respective homes.

He joined the Borno government, parents of the children and Nigerians in commemorating the fourth anniversary of the sad incident.

He also noted that the recovery of more than 100 of the girls that were kidnapped through the Federal Government’s determined effort should give confidence that all “hope is not lost’”.

The President re-affirmed that the government remained focused and determined to see the girls return to their homes.

He, therefore, urged the parents to be expectant of more good news in due course.

“We are concerned and aware that it is taking long to bring the rest of our daughters back home, but be assured that this administration is doing its very best to free the girls from their captors.

“Unfortunately, the negotiations between the government and Boko Haram suffered some unexpected setbacks, owing mainly to a lack of agreement among their abductors, whose internal differences have led to a divergence of voices regarding the outcome of the talks.

“We know that this is not the news parents want to hear after four whole years of waiting, but we want to be as honest as possible with you.

“However, this government is not relenting. We will continue to persist, and the parents should please not give up.

”Don’t give up hope of seeing our daughters back home again. Don’t lose faith in this government’s ability to fulfill our promise of reuniting you with our daughters.

“Don’t imagine for a moment that we have forgotten about our daughters or that we consider their freedom a lost course,’’ the President said.

According to him, as long as he remains the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces the Chibok girls will never be forgotten and all will be done to have them reunited with their families.

PoliticsPolice Sergeant Bags Death Sentence For Killing Businessman by 14Ebisco(op): 9:56pm On Apr 14, 2018
The High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, has sentenced a police sergeant, Vincent Manu, to death for unlawfully killing a businessman, late Stephen Anakwe, and labelling him an armed robber.

Manu was arraigned alongside other five policemen; Inspector Danladi Lenkem; Inspector Edula Ateku, who died in the course of the trial; Samson Magga, a corporal; Musa Audu, also a corporal, as well as Christopher Maikasuwa, on one count charge of criminal conspiracy to kill the deceased while they were on patrol duty.

The presiding judge, Justice James Abundega, who found Manu guilty of killing the deceased, said the prosecution was able to prove with cogent circumstantial evidence that the convict intentionally killed the deceased.

The judge rejected the defendant’s plea of self defense, noting that based on the evidence before him, such plea was not plausible and that the prosecution was able to establish all the ingredients of culpable homicide as provided for in section 220 of the penal code.

He said the offence contravened sections 220 of the penal code and is punishable under section 221.

He, however, absolved the other policemen of any wrong doing, as he discharged and acquitted them.

Justice Abundega in his judgment held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt

He said, “In the circumstances, the court finds the defendant guilty of the charge of causing the death of late Stephen Anakwe on January 13, 2012. He is accordingly convicted.

“The court does not have discretion to impose any other punishment, much as it may, the law must be fulfilled at all times and in all situations. The defendant having been convicted for the offence of culpable homicide under section 221 of the penal code as charge is sentenced to death, the sentence of the court upon you is that you be hanged by the neck until you be dead.”

I hope and pray that good men will rise up and make a difference in this country, because we need more patriotic people in all aspects of life. There is so much we’ve been saying about this crisis, but nothing much has come the way of the victims.

We just need more people to support and join hands to continue extending relief materials to affected people. This is the most important thing we can now do; bring succor to the victims. This thing is going on for too long, repeating itself over and over. There has to be a solution, the victims are not goats they are humans and should be taken care of.

I feel terrible not because it also happened in Benue State, where I hail from, but because it is also happening almost throughout the federation. It does not have to happen to someone you know before you speak up about it.

Although he didn’t specify the office he wants but for sure he will be aspiring for the governorship seat of Benue state or a senatorial position in the national Assembly.

If a free and fair election is conducted he will eventually win any post he contests for regarding his influence and large fan base across the country.

PoliticsAmosun Breaks Silence On Ijebu-igbo Killings by 14Ebisco(op): 2:00pm On Apr 11, 2018
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has condemned in strong terms the recent killings in the Ijebu Igbo area of the state, during a political rally organised by a top member of an opposing political party.

The governor while addressing market women and community leaders, yesterday when he visited Ijebu Igbo, said “killing each other is a thing of the past in the state and I am going to ensure that we get to the root of this matter.

“This is not acceptable, those behind this act will be made to face the full wrath of the law, as nobody will be allowed to mess the state up,” the governor added.

The governor warned criminals and cult groups to steer clear of the state, noting that such acts are detrimental to progress and development.

Amosun, however, urged politicians to live in peace and desist from acts of violence, reiterating his administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Illiyasu, noted that the Police made about 35 arrests and recovered several ammunitions in connection with the clash.

Iliyasu added that those involved in the violence will be charged under the appropriate section of the law, stating that the state is not and will never be allowed to be a safe haven to criminals.

Six persons, including a bricklayer whose name is yet to be verified, were said to have been gunned down and several others injured in a renewed gun war that erupted between suspected members of rival cult groups in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State.

PoliticsPython Dance: What Army Told Me About Killing Of Igbos – Ohanaeze Leader, Nwodo by 14Ebisco(op): 8:25am On Apr 11, 2018
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on the military to find the soldiers who allegedly killed Igbos during the Operation Python Dance.

President-General of Ohanaeze, John Nnia- Nwodo, stated this Tuesday at the night of tributes for the former secretary general of the group and Biafran war veteran, the late Col. Joseph Achuzia, at the Enugu Sports Club.

“I had the opportunity to confront the leadership of the Army, who gave me an assurance that there is going to be a court martial of all soldiers involved in that behaviour that was contrary to their rules of engagement.

“I have been following this matter with correspondence and I will continue to follow it until we know those who massacred our children without cause,” he assured.

On Achuzia, Nwodo said: “From the Igbo-speaking part of Delta State, Asaba, Achuzia threw himself into the Biafran war with unsurpassed bravery, exemplary military discipline and the tact of historical generals of great wars.

“His single-minded approach to the Baifran War made him the dread of any soldier who exhibited any sign of cowardice or equivocation as far as the war was concerned.

“The severity of his enforcement of military discipline earned him the nickname ‘AirRaid’ while his bravery was likened to that of ‘Hannibal the Great’, hence, his other nickname, ‘Hannibal’.

“His bravery was such that he was always posted to any front which defied solution or where the battle was toughest, such that he was believed, then, to be invincible and a cat with nine lives.

“I am happy to be one of the people sent to Asagba of Asaba at the end of the war to say to our kit and kin in Delta that we are extremely sorry we have not shown enough sympathy for the carnage in that part of Igbo land

“And for the fact that we, the brothers, haven’t come to pay our respect for the dead since the war ended. All of us knelt down at the house of the Asagba of Asaba; I saw Ojukwu on his knees.

“I led the national executive of Ohanaeze to Asaba last year when they remembered 700 of our people who were murdered by federal troops. Contrary to the rules of engagement, the same kind of thing that happened to us not too long ago when we had the operation python dance”.

PoliticsKillings In Nigeria: What IG Of Police Said In Taraba by 14Ebisco(op): 7:57pm On Apr 10, 2018
The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has given assurance that the police will do everything possible to provide the much-needed security to Nigerians.

He gave the assurance on Tuesday during the inauguration of a Mobile Police Squadron in Takum, Taraba.

Idris stressed that the police, in collaboration with other sister security agencies, were more determined, better equipped and trained to detect as well as diligently prevent crimes.

The police boss further urged Nigerians to be conscious of security issues in their communities and report any suspicious activity.

According to him, the timely report of such threats is necessary to enable security personnel to forestall the activities of criminals in the society.

The IGP, however, enjoined officers and men of the force to rededicate themselves to their constitutional duty of protecting lives and property of Nigerians and foreigners resident in the country.

Idris also called for diligence among the personnel to enable them to effectively fight crimes to their barest minimum.

”If the officers and men of the force were genuinely busy protecting lives and property of other people in the larger society without getting involved in unwholesome practices, God would also bless and protect such members, as well as their families”, NAN quoted him as saying.

Idris advised them to further rededicate themselves in the service of their fatherland, exhibit discipline, be upright in their official conduct and obey lawful orders.

“You should always be courageous, prayerful, shun unwholesome acts capable of tarnishing your names, families and that of the Nigeria Police.

“Be loyal to the country and constituted authority and make sure you always obey lawful orders and be prayerful at all times for Allah’s protection and blessings,” he added.

Politics2019: Prospects, Constraints Of Buhari’s Ambition by 14Ebisco(op): 4:16am On Apr 10, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has unfolded his re-election bid yesterday at the meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja. Group Political Editor EMMANUEL OLADESU examines the prospects and constraints of his ambition for second term.

The race for the presidency commenced yesterday.

Unlike his predecessors who declared their re-election bids in big rallies, President Muhammdu Buhari informed All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and officers that he would be running again in 2019. It was without funfair. The president gazed at the future with optimism and confidence, urging the ruling party and Nigerians to renew his service to the fatherland for another four years. The push for second term will dominate public discussions until the presidency is won and lost in next year’s elections.

The Commander-in-Chief was frugal in his speech to the members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC), who converged on the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for a critical meeting for the resolution of the logjam triggered by the tenure extension proposal. The president’s request to the political family was that there should be no vacancy in Aso Villa, the seat of government, in 2019.

The declaration is not devoid of logic. A basis can be found for it in law and political tradition. Since 1960, no civilian president or head of government has called it quits after his first term. Constitutionally, President Buhari is entitled to a second term, whether he has performed or not. Politics and morality exist in clear-cut antithetical relationship. In addition, he is favoured by rotational formula. Since the presidency has also been zoned to the larger North by his party, the party leader is qualified to run.

But, it has implications for general administration. Will the president still stay focused? Will the pursuit of a second term not distract his attention?

The declaration has ended some months of speculations about President Buhari’s intention. It may have altered the calculations of likely contenders, who thought the president would step aside for health reasons. Yet, the ambition of the President for continuity has polarised the polity. It is good news to his sincere fanatical supporters and praise singers hoping to profit from their eye service. President Buhari has challenged to a duel his major critics, particularly the internal opposition leaders, outside forces that have dared him to seek re-election and risk the consequences, and other stakeholders who have castigated him for leadership deficiency.

According to observers, President Buhari is seeking re-election, contrary to the advice of some critical opinion moulders, especially former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida, who have continued to threaten fire and brimstone, contending that his second term may herald the liquidation of Nigeria. Another letter from Obasanjo may be imminent, in view of the declaration, to reinforce his earlier point. The president has also rejected the counsel of other highly placed citizens, including eminent leaders of the divided North, who, after weighing the odds, advised him not to run in national interest. In past elections, these entrenched northern forces had always turned their back against the Daura-born General. Now, the bold declaration has jolted them out of their delusion.

Sources said the president may have consulted with key party leaders before making the declaration. It is debatable as some party officers expressed shock at the sudden disclosure. The declaration has coincided with a period of anxiety for the ruling party. The APC is warming up for congresses and the national convention, unmindful of the crises the exercise may unleash, in the absence of an effective, time-tested reconciliation and crisis-resolution mechanism.

Indisputably, President Buhari may have also challenged his would-be opponents at the APC primary to unfold their aspirations. Caution is the watchword. Predictably, there is no chieftain of note who will compete with him for the ticket in the ruling party. But, the division in the APC, which may escalate, if the congresses and the convention are not properly managed, may give room for defection by ambitious presidential aspirants who may take refuge in the opposition parties.

Ahead of the declaration, President Buhari, for the first time, tried to put his house in order. He briskly corrected the mistake of sidelining some party elders who worked for his victory in 2015. He reached out, in particular, to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who he acknowledged as a master political strategist. To a large extent, he also demonstrated a rare dexterity in managing the tension generated by the tenure extension agenda, without necessarily offending the two blocs in the intra-party dispute. Instructively, members of the warring blocs are his trusted loyalists. As he is guiding the party to thread the path of the rule of law, he is also pacifying those who have lost out in the elongation drama by dangling the carrot of waivers.

The president’s immediate foot soldiers in the actualisation of his second term agenda are APC governors. Many of them have urged him to declare his ambition, promising to mobilise for him at the general election. They also hope to garner enormous returns from their political investment. Some of them are relying on the president’s clout and popularity to get second term mandate in their respective states in next year’s elections. The front liners are governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Abdulazeez Yari (Zamfara), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Yahaya Bello (Kogi) and Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano). The Kano governor has even threatened to sue the president, if he declines to re-contest. A source close to the Progressives Governors’ Forum disclosed that the onus is on these governors to kick-start the endorsement of the president for a second term in their respective states.

The president’s ambition has polarised the polity. Opinion is divided among Nigerians. Those pushing for continuity hinge their position on the achievements of the president in the last three years, despite the constraints. During the 2015 presidential campaigns, President Buhari promised to fight corruption, revive the economy, restore security and provide jobs for Nigerians. But, reality dawned on him that the situation on ground would limit his capacity to deliver with speed. He met an empty treasury. Oil earnings dropped abruptly, owing to the twin factors of crash in price in the world market and vandalisation of pipelines in the Niger Delta. He was accused of slow in taking decisions, but he claimed that he has been steady.

President Buhari has made a modest contributions to the remaking of the country. He has tried to fight corruption with vigour, without a supportive legislature and judiciary. In fact, corruption is also fighting back. Although critics have berated his administration for a one-sided war, it is clear that nobody is insulated from the radar. Also, the president appears to be above board as the anti-corruption curator. He has not mocked his antecedent by joining the privileged class of corrupt Nigerians in the corridor of power.

President Buhari has contributed to electoral reforms by upholding the sanctity of the ballot box, even when the outcome of the poll is in favour of the opposition. He has not perceived supplementary elections held since 2015 as a do-or-die affair. Neither has the president given his nod to the indiscriminate deployment of the federal might for partisan reasons.

Also, despite the impediments, President Buahri has fought insurgency. But, the anti-terror war has not been completely won. Although the majority of abducted Dapchi girls were rescued, many Chibok girls are still languishing in captivity. Terrorists have also turned attention to soft targets. Thus, as the Army records a breakthrough in the troubled Northeast, more casualties of bombings by insurgents create a hollow in the anti-terror score card.

The economy is still work in progress. Although the country has exited recession, many Nigerians continue to wallow in poverty and squalor. Diversification through agriculture has been attempted with measured success and jobs created. But, it has been a drop in the ocean. Under President Buhari, the economy has not been totally healed. Unemployment is soaring in geometric proportions. Families are in want of three square meals. Many Nigerians live in agony.

The anti-second term campaigners believe that the president has failed on the economic front. Also, the president has been criticised by his style of governance, particularly his snailpace approach to decision making. There was an allegation that he has allowed the cabals to hijack his government. Thus, those sidelined from the party and the government believed that he is not effectively in charge. The perception is that President Buhari has a reputation for dumping those who assisted him to get to power after consolidating his hold on the exalted office.

Also, President Buhari’s ratings may have dropped, following his poor handling of the farmers/herdsmen clashes in the North. Many lives have been lost due to the conflict in Benue, Taraba and Zamfara. Recently, former Defence Minister Lt-Gen. Yakubu Danjuma, cried out that the Army had colluded with herdsmen to kill many innocent people in the region. His allegation is still being investigated by the government.

Before the President unfolded his re-election bid, there were speculations that a few chieftains were eyeing the presidency. They include Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and Senate President Bukola Saraki.

At the weekend, Saraki’s media aide Yusuph Olaniyonu, debunked the rumour, saying that his principal is not in the race. But, will Tambuwal and Kwankwaso still run? Do they have any chance at the primary? Can either of them beat the president at the shadow poll? Will they slug it out with the president at the primary or defect to another party to realise their ambitions?

According to observers, the outcome of the congresses and convention may have implications for the APC and the president’s second term bid. Gladiators are spoiling for war. The battle of supremacy is raging in some chapters. Governors and senators are fighting for the soul of the party in some states. If the congresses are marred by crises, aggrieved chieftains may defect to rival parties under the guise of division in the ruling party. This may have implications for the electoral fortune of the APC in 2019.

If the President secures the ticket of the APC to run, can he beat the flag bearers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which is being perceived as the third force?

Presidential aspirants in the PDP include: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has declared his ambition in Rivers State and hired former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel as his Mobilisation Officer/Campaign Coordinator for the Southwest, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, his Kano, Sokoto and Kaduna counterparts; Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa and Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Damkabo and Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who has insisted on contesting, despite the fact that the party has zoned the slot to the North. Can any of them beat the president at the poll? Will the PDP survive the politics of presidential nomination? How will the PDP convince Nigerians that the mistakes of the past 16 year will not be repeated?

Analysts believe that, if the cracks in the APC are not mended, and there is a wave of defections, the tragedy that hit the PDP in 2015 may not be averted.

Many APC senators and House of Representatives members have been at loggerheads with the presidency. Will they sheathe their swords or jump the ship, ahead of next elections? Does the President has the skill and capacity to keep the house united?

Sources close to the National Chairman of the SDP, Chief Olu Falae, disclosed that the party is not opposed to an alliance with the PDP and other smaller parties. So far, no APC chieftain has defected to the SDP in any of the APC-controlled states, except in Adamawa. However, aggrieved PDP chieftains in the Southwest, particularly in Ekiti, have gone to the SDP.

But, will the Obasanjo-inspired SDP have an accord with the PDP, which the former president has discredited? If aggrieved chieftains defect from the APC, will the SDP be the beneficiary? Can the PDP/SDP alliance stop Buhari?

Will President Buhari overcome the odds and achieve his aspiration? Time will tell.

PoliticsNigeria Sick Under Buhari – Omoyele Sowore by 14Ebisco(op): 12:56pm On Apr 09, 2018
Omoyele Sowore, 2019 presidential aspirant and founder of online news platform, Saharareporters, has described Nigeria as a sick nation under the current administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He gave this verdict during a town hall meeting at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Sowore said that Nigerian workers will be paid 100,000 as minimum wage and that the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members will be paid N50,000 and that if anything happens to a serving youth corps member, the family will get N10 million as insurance.

According to him, “Nigeria is sick and it needs a doctor, whatever ideology you call that is what I am. Nigeria is in need of a future that can be guaranteed to her children, whatever ideology will deliver that, you call me that. All these ideologies we are branding around, they are ideologies that were developed by other countries when they had a problem and they wanted to solve them. By the time we are done with Nigeria, our own Ideology will emerge and will be adopted by everybody around the world. That is my promise” those are the words of Mr.

“We have coalitions of political parties we are engaging with. We are not naming them yet because we suspect that they will infiltrate them. Some of the political parties we are seeing today are very new and that is why we are approaching this throw movement politics, but here is what I have to tell you, we are not joining the PDP or the APC.

“We welcome people of conscience across Nigeria, across all political parties and creed. We welcome them to our movement and together we will join parties that are pro the people of Nigeria.

“We cannot have a merger anymore because we run out of time to assemble political parties that will surrender their identity under a merger, but even as I am standing in front of you, we are getting commitments from parties”.

“This is not the time for a joke. It is not the time for adulation. It is the time for us to get very serious because we have a battle ahead of us. These guys are not going to leave power on their own volition. We have been fighting them for 30 years and now is the time to disrupt the system and take it down. It is up to them to choose where they want to be spanked in this fight. It is up to them to choose to leave peacefully. The word disruption is not to scare anyone but to prepare us that the younger generation is finally ready to give worthy leadership to this country” he said.

“I just told you that workers will be paid 100,000 as minimum wage and I also want to add that those of you who are youth corpers will be paid N50,000 and we should be heading very quickly to N100,000 because youth copers should be able to earn minimum wage as well. And if you’re a youth corps member and anything happens to you while you’re serving, your family gets paid N10 million as insurance,” he added.

Omokri who made the statement on his social media page, obtained by Orsu24news.com, also criticized the federal government for fighting the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who have not killed any body.

He wondered why FG should give amnesty to Boko haram terrorists who have killed thousands of innocent Nigerians and at the same time fights IPOB who have not killed any Nigerian.

His post Reads: “How can you grant amnesty to Boko Haram that have killed thousands of Nigerians and fight IPOB that have not killed any Nigerian. And you expect people to believe that “I belong to everybody, and I belong to nobody” ?

Recall, the federal government had in 2017 declared the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as terrorists group, which members are under incarceration in verious prisons.

PoliticsBuhari Breaks Silence On Allegations Of Religious Bias by 14Ebisco(op): 6:38pm On Apr 05, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, declared that the allegation that he is favouring one religion over the other is far from the truth.

He said all through his public life, he had never contravened his oath of office.

This was as he called on religious leaders to work towards the broader goal of building a strong and unified nation, and avoid insinuations that could divide the populace, especially along religious lines.

Recall that the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, recently stated that Buhari “rode into town like a knight in shining armour…the bogeyman of religion, region and ethnicity, which we thought we had overcome by the sheer nature of your support base, have come back with a vengeance to haunt and threaten the very foundation of our existence.”

But the President, while receiving a delegation of the Arewa Pastors Non-Denominational Initiative for Peace in Nigeria led by Bishop John Abu Richard, stated that religious leaders had the responsibility of creating an enabling environment for peace and development to thrive.

“Some voices, for political or ethnic reasons are making unguarded statements accusing the government and myself in particular of religious bias.

“Let me assure you, honourable clergymen that this is far from the truth. In my career as a soldier, administrator, and politician, I have never veered from my oath of office.

“When I had the honour to lead a Military Government there were more Christians than Muslims in the Federal Executive Council and the Supreme Military Council.

“This was not by design but I appointed people on their merit without the slightest bias. The present Federal Executive Council is also evenly balanced; again not by design but by respecting and rewarding individual qualities,’’ Buhari said, according to a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.

The President expressed delight at the proposition to hold a one day prayer and fasting meeting for the nation, April 26, 2018, assuring that he would direct the Inspector General of Police to provide adequate security for the gathering.

In his remarks, the leader of the delegation said more than 45,000 pastors in the Northern part of Nigeria had registered with the initiative to use their pulpits for the propagation of the gospel of peace, and shun political distractions.

Richard urged other pastors to support the administration as it works towards ending the violence in various parts of the country and avoid politically coloured sermons.

SportsChampions League: Steven Gerrard Reveals What Liverpool Must Do After 3-0 Win Ov by 14Ebisco(op): 8:19am On Apr 05, 2018
Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard has reacted to his former side’s Champions League demolition of Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Gerrard has hailed the Reds for their performance in the 3 -0 demolition of Manchester City, but said the team needs to be humble.

Gerrard said the squad must know the job is only half done.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the 12th minute; Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain netted a long-range screamer, while Sadio Mane added a third before half-time to stun City.

Gerrard told BT Sport, “The Liverpool players and manager will all come out and be humble because there’s another 90 minutes to play.

“But I think secretly and in that dressing room they will be delighted with that result and the performance.

“I think we’ve seen both sides of Liverpool tonight.

“The pressing side, with their aggressive on the front foot and excellent on the regain and the counter attack.

“And second half they ring the 18-yard box, they were excellent to a man defensively.

“And basically they forced City to run out of ideas.”

The second leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie takes place at the Etihad next Tuesday.

Before that Liverpool face arch-rivals Everton in a Merseyside derby on Saturday lunchtime in the Premier League.

PoliticsPDP, CNM React To Obasanjo’s Opposition To Buhari’s Re-election by 14Ebisco(op): 1:03pm On Apr 04, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has backed former President, Olusegun Obasanjo’s opposition to the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, said that the PDP was not surprised at Obasanjo’s criticisms of the President.

“President Obasanjo spoke the minds of Nigerians on the performance of President Buhari. We all know that the President has not done well. It is clear that the ruling party and the Presidency are asleep and do not know what to do with power”, he told Punch.

“The President has no economic blueprint, nothing on security and nothing on infrastructural development. His main agenda is to come and fight perceived enemies and also bring his relations to government. That is why he is surrounded by his relations only.”

He, however, disagreed with Obasanjo on the apology the PDP offered to Nigerians and members of the party.

Similarly, the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) advised Buhari to bow out of office.

Its spokesman, Akin Osuntokun, said Buhari had done nothing but had been giving excuses in the last three years, adding that his penchant for blaming his predecessor was no longer amusing to Nigerians.

Osuntokun said: “When Obasanjo became President in 1999, there were many challenges he inherited from the past military governments but he was working. Buhari has been in power for nearly three years and he continues to blame the past government.

“Government is a continuum. Was he not expecting to meet any challenges? Which government doesn’t inherit challenges? Let him tell the world what he has accomplished in the face of challenges.

“He claims to be fighting corruption but the Transparency International has rated Nigeria worse than it did during Jonathan’s government. Under Buhari, Nigeria has become more divided than ever. We stand with Obasanjo.”

Christianity Etc2019: "Buhari Will Use, Dump Tinubu, God Wants Saraki" – Primate Ayodele by 14Ebisco(op): 8:18am On Apr 03, 2018
Primate Elijah Ayodele of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, with headquarters in Lagos State, has warned the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, not to support President Muhammadu Buhari in next year’s presidential election.

Ayodele, speaking at the dedication of the Emi Ni Aseyori Kan Pro Cathedral a.k.a Sope Parish in Lagos last weekend, claimed that Tinubu would be used and dumped by Buhari.

The cleric also called on the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, to contest for the presidency in 2019 or face the wrath of God.

“The present ‘romance’ going on between Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Buhari is deception; they’re deceiving Tinubu. They just want to use him and dump him. Until we appreciate God and not man, the country will continue to experience underdevelopment,” he said.

On the 2019 presidential election, the cleric stated that God had ordained Saraki to help Nigeria.

“I want to tell Saraki now to make up his mind, because God has ordained him to help this country. He should come out to contest for president. It’s not by noise. At the moment, he is the one who can move Nigeria forward.

“So, I want him to take the bold step and make up his mind or else, God would deal with him. I don’t make predictions; I give prophecies. However, I am not God. God can choose to delay when fulfilling certain prophecies.

“What is happening with the administration of President Muhammad Buhari, God had told me and I said it; these things are happening now. Everything happening in the country now has been foretold,” he stated.

Crime5 Killed In Communal Clash In Cross River by 14Ebisco(op): 12:13pm On Apr 02, 2018
Five people have been reportedly killed in a renewed communal clash between Odukpani Qua clan and New Netim community in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State

While three were killed on Good Friday, another two were allegedly killed at the weekend following a surprise attack by gunmen.

Daily Sun investigation revealed that the two communities have been in conflict over issue of aborigines even as the New Netim people have lived together for over a century.

It was learnt that besides the land in dispute, the New Netim have been engaged in a protracted leadership tussle over who becomes the village head.

The clash got to a climax when both communities went into a full scale war in 2016, leading to loss of lives and destruction of schools and the entire village of New Netim razed.

Subsequently, the people were sacked from their ancestral village and said to be leaning in nearby communities of Akamkpa, Biase and Calabar Municipal.

However, the recent hostilities were said to have been caused when some armed men allegedly invaded the Odukpani Qua clan community and unleashed mayhem on the people as three persons were feared killed with many others injured.

A witness, Sunday Okon, said the hoodlums invaded the community at about 10:00am on Friday in three buses carrying a church banner in front to divert attention.

According to Okon, when they arrived, they started shooting sporadically, leaving three persons dead and several others scampered to safety while some others remained indoors.

He said the surprise attack lasted about 70 minutes and the invaders drove away through the community to the Odukpani junction and nobody accosted them.

Another witness, Asuquo Nyong, said some armed policemen and soldiers have been drafted to the Odukpani Qua clan community but that two more persons were allegedly killed in their farms along the highway by gunmen.

Nyong said this has sent shocks down the spine of the villagers as they don’t understand what is really happening.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, could not be reached. But police sources said they have not got official report on the number of casualties.

PoliticsWhat CAN Told Gov. Ugwuanyi In Enugu by 14Ebisco(op): 12:18pm On Mar 31, 2018
In what could be described as the mother of all endorsements, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Enugu State Chapter, in a recent mega prayer rally tagged “Enugu State is in the Hands of God,” prayed for the re-election of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in 2019, in appreciation of his good works and commitment to God.

At the prayer rally, the leaders of the five blocks in CAN, Enugu State Chapter, namely, Most Rev. Dr. Calistus Onaga of the CSN; Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel O. Chukwuma of the CCN; Bishop Obi Onubuogu of CPFN/PFN; Rev. Michael Ebonine of OAIC and Rev. Emmanuel Edeh of ECWA/TEKAN, in an address delivered by the chairman of the association, Rt. Rev. Christian Obiefuna told Gov. Ugwuanyi that “your second tenure is in the Hands of God” and “it is safe with Him because you have acknowledged Him”.

The Christian body commended the governor for his commitment to God and entrenchment of peace and good governance in Enugu State, saying: “Be assured of our support and supplications to God for a successful, peaceful transition and fulfillment of your heart’s desires for Enugu State”.

The body added that the prayer rally was “our own contribution to support good governance in Enugu State under the supervision of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi”, stressing that it was imperative to ensure the state continues to be in the Hands of God, in “principle and practice”.

“Beloved, truly, Enugu State is in the Hands of God. It is imperative that our efforts should be that Enugu State shall continue to be in the Hands of God in principle and practice. CAN is not a political party and shall not act as such.

“Our role is to encourage all believers in Christ to fear and respect God in all our dealings in public and private for inheritance of eternal life and to pray for those in authority for good governance, as the heart of the king is in the hands of the Lord”, said CAN, Enugu State chapter.

It is interesting to note that a week before the CAN’s prayer rally was gale of similar endorsements from Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Enugu State Chapter and local government pensioners; the people of Ezeagu L.G.A; the National Union of Road Transport Workers; traders from “Nkanu land” under the auspices of Nkanu Traders Association, and a host of others.

Workers in the 17 local government councils in Enugu State, under the aegis of NULGE and LG pensioners, in a solidarity rally unanimously endorsed Gov. Ugwuanyi as their candidate for the 2019 governorship election in the state. At the colourful rally, which was attended by the national president of NULGE, Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel, the jubilant workers and retirees in an address delivered by the union’s state president, Comrade Kenneth Ugwueze, disclosed that the endorsement was “in appreciation of peace and good governance in Enugu State” and the governor’s “undeterred friendly disposition to labour”.

The workers stated that Ugwuanyi “in less than three years in office wiped away our tears and assured us of a better future”, declaring: “We have come out today as the product of that mandate to overwhelmingly endorse you as our candidate for the 2019 governorship election in Enugu State.”

The NULGE’s endorsement, which coincided with Ugwuanyi’s 54th birthday anniversary, was also seen as a birthday gift to the governor.

NULGE’s national president, while upholding the stance of the union’s state chapter, described Ugwuanyi as a leader with “huge humility, vision and comradeship”. He also appreciated the governor for his good works in the state and commitment to peace and wellbeing of the less-privileged as well as the entire workforce.

Khaleel told the governor, “Your Excellency, you’re the voice of the voiceless. I’m not surprised at the level of peace in your state. Where there is peace, the hand of God is there. That is why Enugu State is in the hands of God. When a man that fears God is in charge, certainly, God’s hands will be in every corner of his domain. After your second term in 2023, something greater is coming your way.”

Sons and daughters of Ezeagu L.G.A at the colourful and well attended civic reception for Ugwuanyi said they unanimously endorsed the governor for re-election because he “has delivered on his campaign promises and considered the people of the area in political appointments”.

They added that they were “highly impressed with the development strides of the governor and his uncommon leadership style which have entrenched peace and good governance in the council area in particular and the state in general”.

It pertinent to note that the Ezeagu reception also witnessed the defection of hundreds of All Progressives Congress (APC) members to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who declared they were tired of their former party and opposition politics in the state.

It is therefore noteworthy that Ugwuanyi has in less than three years in office received many commendations for his good works and gale of uninfluenced endorsements for re-election in 2019 from virtually all major segments of the society. These include leaders of religious institutions, chieftains of the opposition political parties, the state and local government workforce, traders, road transport workers, pensioners and artisans.

The governor is very much loved and admired by the people. Not surprisingly, the avalanche of goodwill, acceptance and support he enjoys from various spheres of the society remains unbeatable in the history of the state. This was possible because of his commitment to good governance, open-door policy, inclusive leadership, and close contact with the masses.

On the entrenchment of peace and good governance in Enugu State, in spite of the country’s daunting economic challenges, Ugwuanyi has maintained his longstanding path to vision, integrity, inclusiveness, accountability, transparency and prudent management of resources. His milestone feats in the provision of critical infrastructure across the state; rural development; qualitative and affordable education and healthcare delivery; regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, including the 13thmonth salary; innovative and robust investment drive; peace and security; economic empowerment; and agricultural revolution, among others, have been acknowledged and applauded by friends and foes alike.

They are not only enduring and unprecedented, but have also positively impacted the lives of the people, especially the rural dwellers, rekindling their confidence in participatory democracy.

The governor’s passion for the wellbeing of the people, especially the lowly and the forgotten, for instance, saw to his administration’s paradigm shift of development from focus on the urban centres to the rural areas. This is to ensure that long-neglected communities in the state feel the positive impact of governance. Ugwuanyi has executed more landmark road projects in the rural areas and satellite towns, where the majority of the people reside, than in the urban centres.

Interestingly, road projects are on-going in places, such as Abakpa, Emene, Eha-Amufu, Amurri, Akpugo, Coal Camp, Ngenevu, Iva Valley, and so on. More road contracts are also being awarded to improve the living standard of the rural dwellers and give them a sense of belonging.

It is also on record that the state government has spent over N40 billion on road construction and rehabilitation across the state in the last two and a half years, covering over 240 kilometres.

Not too long ago, Ugwuanyi demonstrated his commitment to ensuring that meaningful development reached every nook and cranny of the state with the disbursement of N2.25 billion to 450 autonomous communities. That was the first tranche of the N10 million earmarked for every community in the state to execute development projects of their choice.

Recently, the governor was at Ogbede Market, Igbo Etiti L.G.A to flag off the re-launched state’s Traders Empowerment Scheme, which has an annual bumper package of N120 million, against the N60 million at inception of the scheme, representing a double increase. In the repackaged scheme, 200 genuine traders will now win N10 million every month at N50, 000 each, as against N5 million for 100 traders in the last scheme. Again, 17 other markets were added to the existing 37 to ensure that the empowerment scheme reached out to every nook and cranny of the state for more winners to benefit.

Ugwuanyi’s compassionate disposition and generosity at the helm of power are legendary. He was recently commended by not only the Nigerian Army, but also ex-servicemen in Enugu State for his government’s N19.6 million empowerment grant to 96 widows of fallen heroes residing in the state, to assist them start businesses of their choice and live a better life.

As a caring and proactive leader, the governor upon receiving the sad news of fire outbreak at the Kenyatta Timber Market, Enugu, had to end a meeting of the State Executive Council to visit the site and ensure that adequate intervention was made to put off the inferno. The governor did not stop there. Within two days of the incident, he visited the market for the second time, and directed the immediate rebuilding of the affected 72 shops with a promise to assist owners of the shops with the sum of N7.2 million to enable them restart their businesses, saying: “I am here to wipe away your tears”.

In recognition of all these milestone achievements, which are the radiant bedrock of the governor’s strength of leadership, the emerging consensus in the state and beyond is clear and remains that this uncommon level of support enjoyed by the people’s governor must be sustained to enable him continue rendering more selfless service to humanity and maintain his vision to build Enugu State of our founding fathers’ dream.

Enugu State is truly in the hands of God.

Amoke writes from Enugu State

Lai Mohammed who is the spokesman of the President Buhari-led administration has published the names of looters with the PDP members making the list. The Federal Government has released a list of some of those who have allegedly looted the nation’s treasury.

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, released the list during a press conference in Lagos on Friday.

Mohammad said the individuals include officials in the past government.

The names in the list revealed by the Federal Government include PDP chieftains who are currently being tried for corruption and financial crimes.

“The PDP has challenged us to name the looters under their watch. They said they did not loot the treasury. Well, I am sure they know that the treasury was looted dry under their watch. Yet they decided to grandstand. This shows the hollowness of their apology,” Mohammed said as he released the names.

Find the list below and the allegations against them by the Federal Government:

1 PDP Chairman Uche Secondus
Allegation: On the 19th of Feb 2015, he took N200 million only from the office of the NSA.

2. Then PDP Financial Secretary

Allegation: On the 24th of Oct 2014, he took N600 million only from the office of then NSA.

3. Then National Publicity Secretary Olisah Metuh

On trial for allegedly collecting N1.4bn from the office of then NSA.

4. Dr Raymond Dokpesi, Chairman of DAAR Communications

On trial for allegedly taking N2.1 billion from the office of then NSA.

5. Former SSA to President Jonathan, Dudafa Waripamo-Owei

On trial, over N830 million allegedly kept in accounts of four different companies.

6. Former President Jonathan’s Cousin Robert Azibaola

On Thursday, a Federal High Court ruled that he has a case to answer for allegedly collecting $40 million from the office of then NSA.

The decision by the APC government to reveal the names of the alleged looters and the funds stolen is in response to the opposition party, PDP’s, challenge to the government to name those alleged to have looted the country and destroyed the economy.

Mohammed said this list is just a tip of the iceberg, and the APC did not make these cases up as some of them currently have cases in court.

“They are in court and the records are available. Some of the people on this list are seeking to plea bargain, and that is a fact.

“We insist that Nigeria was looted blind under the watch of the PDP and that the starting point in tendering an apology is for them to return the loot,” he said.

“Some men are like bolar (those guys that pick dirty and rotten irons): even when they see gold or diamond, even things that can help their life, they will rather mash it together and sell it to recycling company.”

The entertainer went on to appeal to parents and the government to do better in training the male child, saying men are contributing to female unemployment.
“As a female child from a humble or hidden background, you will definitely face a lot of rejection and heartbreaking from men,” she wrote.
