Fit is a lifestyle. It's
about making the
right choices on a
daily basis. As a
fitness junkie and the
owner of track fitness,
I share a motto with
my clients: "think
naked." Whether
you're looking for a
parking spot, sitting at
a restaurant or having
an inner debate of
stairs versus elevator,
you should "think
naked." These seven
tips fit people do will
help you get on track.
Shifting your mindset
to make physical
activity and healthy
eating a natural
choice will greatly
affect your life. Here's
what fit people do:

1. We walk our kids
to school. Start your
day off on the right
foot. Incorporating
exercise into your
regular routine is the
key to staying slim. A
brief 30-minute walk
burns approximately
140 calories. Walking
your kids to school
every day will put
your entire family on
the path to a healthy
life. Spending quality
time with them is just
a bonus! Fit people
know the importance
of physical activity,
and they make time
for it every day.

2. We say no to the
bread basket. First
order of business,
when you sit down at
a restaurant, is to
remove the bread
basket. Although
carbohydrates are a
great source of
energy, it is important
to know the difference
between good and bad
carbs. Processed flour
products, like white
bread, are turned into
glucose and then
stored as fat.
Overindulging in the
bread basket at a
restaurant can add
hundreds of calories to
your meal. Just say
no!

3. We don't fall off
any wagons. Fit
people don't go on
wagons in the first
place. At track fitness,
I encourage my clients
to be consistent and
make exercise and
healthy eating a part
of their lifestyle.
Choose healthier foods
and smaller portions if
weight loss is your
goal. Learn how to eat
right and steer clear of
fad diets and
subsequent binge
eating.

4. We ask: "Can we
walk there?" Put your
walking shoes on if
your destination is
nearby. Whether
you're going to a
friend's house, the
grocery store or to
work, walking is very
beneficial for your
body. Fit people look
at driving and taking
a cab as second and
third options. Exposing
yourself to outdoor
exercise also lowers
levels of the stress
hormone, cortisol, and
improves your mental
health.

5. We take the first
parking spot we see.
You know that person
doing laps around the
parking lot in their
car? Don't be that
person. Fit people take
the first available
parking spot, even if
it's far away. Spend
your energy and time
walking. The key
message here is to fit
in a little bit of
exercise any chance
you get.

6. We don't take the
elevator up one floor,
or even nine floors
Adding extra steps in
your day is simple --
swap the elevator for
the stairs. Fit people
don't even think about
the elevator unless
they have to go up 10
or more floors. With
more exercise, comes
more energy and
more stamina. So start
walking!

7. We eat breakfast
within 30 minutes of
waking up. Not a
morning person?
Improve your mood
and metabolism with
a healthy breakfast
within 30 minutes of
waking up. If you skip
breakfast, you will be
more likely to overeat
later in the day. Fit
people make food a
first priority. Skip the
high sugar, processed
items and opt for a
balance of whole
grain carbs, protein
and healthy fat.
