Dear nairalanders, i drive a toyota carina e, the rate at which it consumes fuel baffles me, i cant use a thousand naira fuel for a 30kilometer drive without receiving d red fuel indicator light. I fired the car and checked d silencer only to see black smoke, took it to an injector specialist, he changed one thing he called smokin sensor under d car close to d silencer,it is a plug with a round head. It reduced but started again. All this started when i was managing fuel n drivin d car on red for long or even til d car goes off. Cud my injector b bad entirely or is there any remedy. Please i need response cos am jus a corper managin my alawee here in abuja n dis ca saves ma a*s cos my office is situated where taxis cant go in so i need dat car. Waiting for ur response please.

Lol @ smoking sensor.

Before we start, what model year is your Carina E? Or would i say, your car production year?

Before i forget, please, you must not drive car everyday. So, a day you can't afford to fuel your car beyond reserve tank, leave the car. The more you drive the car on reserve tank or drive till the fuel finishes and the car stalls/goes off because of inadequate fuel in the tank, you are creating more problems for yourself.

By the way, it's oxygen sensor. Don't mind your so called "Injector specialist". Smoking sensor indeed!

Ikenna.

However my advice is for you to change your injector nozzles with NEW ones if you can afford or good after market ones. Check your plugs and get a NEW now I mean NEW Oxygen sensor for your car...while you at that never drive your car on a critical fuel volume henceforth.

well I have a disdain for Toyota boxes....

Get the car scanned first then physically check to see if:

1. Oxygen sensors pre cat (Catalytic converter) and post cat are well connected and working properly. (The scan should reveal this)
2. Thermostat is present and working properly.
3. Radiator cooling fan has not been wired to work continuously.
4. The Air Flow Meter is working properly. (The scan should reveal this)
5. The injector nozzles are working properly by checking the spray.
6. The correct spark plugs are the ones on the car and are working properly. (I have seen many cars with 3 or 4 different types of plugs fitted to one engine)
7. That the catalytic converter has not been removed or hollowed out.
8. Air filter is clean as a dirty filter would restrict air flow into the engine. (Air filters should also be changed at every service interval. I have had really filthy air filters removed from cars and mechanics have advised that they don't really need to be changed and the filter remains in the housing accumulating more dust and debris).

Best of luck.
