Djtm: doesn't take long. Depends on how intelligent and hardworking you are.
If everything is equal how long will it take?

Djtm: Newbie: knows almost nothing
about programming but is willing to learn.

Hardcore: once a newbie but no more. Now enjoying the basics of programming and can't resist doing it again and again.

Advanced: as a result of being hardcore, he now knows few
secrets and advanced techniques to create rare things and interactive programs or services.

Expert: needs no references and manuals after all. Can create anything without making a single error as a result of being advanced programmer for long time.[/b]

Insane: due to his expertise, he began to grow insane. He commits no mistake in programming and always create unique programs and most of the time creates new things. Most His works are never seen before.

this categorisation sends wrong messages.
Hard core connotes proficiency so a hard core cannot not be at a basic level of skill.
Wat comes to ur mind wen u use d word hard core!? Concentrated. Intense. Super . Above the pack.

The Expert definition is garbage too.
Even veterans with decades of experience make mistakes . Syntax errors and logic errors.
There's no how you'll write thousand line programs and not experience compiler/interpreter errors no matter your years of experience. So strike that out.
Besides languages keep evolvg so the veteran has new api's to learn . He has lots of stuff to unlearn to! Infact programming is harder for the established veteran than d total newbie.
He started by having unlimited access to raw memory.this was power without controls. He used c or assembly. Then someone came along and told him he'd being doing it wrong all the while.
His programs shud b mor modular. Here , take this its just as gud and as poerful as tht crude tool u'd been usg b4. He was handed c++.
He had to learn oop at d same level as a newbie. But his background got in d way, he programmed in d new language in d old style.
A total newbie had no previous experience cloudg him.
But he still had access to memory until anoda smart guy came along to tell him he's doing it wrong again!
This time he had no business poking around in memory.
Except he was a criminal.
Here take this java let me handle ur c++ for a while.
But he didnt like java it was slow he complained to management until team java came out with som perfrmance benchmarks shwg java to ,u wont believe it, sometimes surpass c++ in speed!
Multiple inheritance tht was baked into his brain had to unlearned...
And then anoda smart guy came out to say you've been doing it wrong again! Here take this resurgent functional language, or multi core language ...
In a way, life is much much harder for d veteran with decades of experience than for the stark newbie.
As for d insane category sorry bro i disagree with you 100 percent.
The industry morphing applications arent written by the old dogs but by relatively younger people.
Y? Its more than technical skills its more about understandg of social group dynamics. And d dynamics of d most volatile groups of all. The adolescent/teenage groups.
An expert veteran didnt see napster coming only some1 in dat group same with facebook, myspace, twitter, ebay, amazon, groupon etc.
The older groups were to busy with their set in stone less flexible lifestyles.
Reclassify ur list.
