Who remembers Lars Lagerback?
Yep, he was the man who coached the Super eagles at the last world cup. He may qualify Iceland later today.

Sweden have a far greater chance of causing an upset, than Ukraine. I believe the quality in the "Les Blues" will be too much for the Ukrainians.

I just hope that what happened in Korea/Japan 2002 repeats itself in Brazil and my prayer will be answered.

There will always be a 'group of death' at any WC.

How real are the chances of Iceland. I hope they qualify. I like seeing unlikely teams qualifying for the world cup.

Sorry.. Croatia beat them by 2-0. Hence, the Croats qualified on a 2-0 aggregate.

Brazil has, so far, spent over $14.5billion (N2.2tr) towards hosting the world cup; with around $3.5billion (N542.5bn) of that amount has been spent on upgrading/constructing new stadia. Brazil's sports minister, however, is expecting a massive $90bn boost to the Brazilian economy during the world cup.

South Africa spent $4.5bn four years ago, and recouped only $500 million.

The loss could be said to be half of the $1.1bn spent on stadia in SA, as the other $3bn were spent on upgrading infrastructure-which responsive govts would have done whether they were hosting a world cup or not.

So true. Another factor that caused such a loss is FIFA's share of the revenues from the tourney. FIFA takes a lions share of the revenues-around 65%. In fact, FIFA, as an entity, made billions of dollars from the last world cup.

$10bn may be half of what Nigeria would need, if we were the ones hosting next year. The cost of upgrading the stadia may balloon to $5bn

That's the sacrifice the host nation has to accept. It's mostly tourist spending that benefits the local economy.

We always use at least x3 of what we need and and at the end, we won't achieve half of the original plan so they are more likely to use more than that $10b

Abi. The cost inflation is always 3ice the amount in most developed societies.
Even in Brazil, there are allegations of contract inflation on some of the world cup-related projects. For instance, the Draw ceremony is going to cost $8million

Dat will be good for us (especially if they don't know how to bargain grin) since its directly into the pockets of the citizens and nt into the govt's pocket
