I will start by saying that the experience Nairalander ugwum007 shared in his earlier post is highly despicable angry.

I am not writing this piece on behalf of GNLD. I am not an employee of GNLD. However, I had prior knowledge about GNLD products outside Nigeria and when I returned to the country, I made my own evaluation and decided to develop a part-time GNLD business alongside my main consulting business in strategy, branding and HR.

As a person, I live by the principle that what is worth doing is worth doing well. This is why I always invest substantial time and research in anything before I delve into it. The Bible substantiates this when it says that “…victory depends on having many advisers” Proverbs 24 v 6.

I say this because over the years, I have done my research and I believe GNLD is a good business opportunity.

Having said that, one must realize that every imaginable tool that can be used for a wonderful purpose on earth, can also been used for twisted purposes.

Our televisions open us up to the world but when not properly used, they offer porn to our unsupervised children.

Our kitchen knives slice up the freshest vegetables from our gardens for delicious edika ekong soup however, that same knife could be used by a husband at night to stab a wife in order to elope with her rival.

And this is the situation with the company called GNLD and the wonderful products it manufactures. I call its products wonderful because in the course of using them myself and recommending them to clients, I have seen and heard wonderful testimonials about how several GNLD products have made plants grow, helped men and women lose weight, manage conditions like diabetes and blood pressure, etc

Again, not to justify what unscrupulous elements have done to tarnish the image of the company, I believe that because, GNLD is an equal opportunity employer (like other network marketing companies eg Forever Living, Tianshi, Edmark, etc), it is not easy to remove the chaff from the actual grains.

Anyone can GNLD join irrespective of age, sex, bank account size, tribe, religion, race, education, etc.

Whilst this is fantastic, (in comparison to our Nigerian employers who only want 2:1 holders no more than 23 years old and can bring in business of N10billion annually on a N40, 000 per month pay check ) it very easy for people with ulterior motives to use the company’s opportunity as a licence to fleece other innocent and unsuspecting members of the society.

Two particular things struck me about the Nigerian warehouse and a good number of purported distributors I meet.

I believe that these two things, in addition to our disorganisation as a country, our materialism and eagerness to make a fast buck at the expense others, plus lack of respect for the law, are the reasons why Nigerians will prefer to scam others through genuine multi-level marketing companies like GNLD.

First
is that the warehouse is usually very crowded every working day of the week. At any given time of the day, you see groups of people converged at various places in and around the warehouse holding meetings, upon meetings, upon meetings. This is what they also call seminars.

This trend is very unusual in GNLD offices in developed parts of the world. But sometimes I wonder if our population as a country contributes to this.

Any sane person with good business acumen knows that the length of time invested in these meetings is valuable enough to generate more business and hence your bottom-line profit.

I have generated 80% of my GNLD business online. I have a fully functional and active website, an OLX account, and I am registered on Google Local, and online directories like the MTN Business Directory.

I have NEVER been to any meeting. My sponsor lives in South Africa and we met in London. My downlines are spread all over Nigeria.

Even if I decided to, I cannot even get all of my downlines at the same venue at once so I invest time and little money from my profits topping up my cell phone and ensuring I text or call them when they are available.

I concentrate my all my effort on sales. My business strategy is quality and not quantity. I would rather make money buying products at the company’s discounted price and selling at a reasonable profit than stress myself cajoling people to ‘register today and become rich tomorrow’.

When I studied top distributors in GNLD, I noticed that most of them started with selling the products and they did this for years before they got to the top of the company.

Focusing on registration instead of sales is a lazy man’s way of thinking and a recipe for disaster. If you do, you will end up concocting lies on why prospects should register and losing any reputation you might have.

Those meetings people hold for two to ten hours are counter-productive for a twentieth century business in my opinion.

Let me make this very clear, GNLD business is NOT for everyone. All of us cannot be doctors, neither can all of us be lawyers, nor all of us be engineers, or all of us be bankers. So, I repeat “GNLD BUSINESS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE”.

However, everyone has a right to hear about the GNLD opportunity if they wish. No be by force.

In fact, I have concentrated purely on product knowledge and sales. This has helped me secure substantial income to develop my own marketing materials and deepen business relationships that help me get products to my customers in any part of Nigeria on time at a fair price.

Some people will make money from GNLD and some will never make a farthing.

Next thing I noticed is that distributors hardly invest in acquiring sufficient knowledge about the benefits company’s natural, non-toxic products and are quick to jump into money matters thus interpreting the business plan wrongly.

I get calls every day from all over Nigeria. Sokoto, Minna, Gombe, Calabar, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Ekiti, Ibadan, and a lot more. People are being sold the wrong GNLD products for their problems at exorbitant prices every day.

Distributors are hungry for a quick buck and cannot even invest time in product knowledge let alone taking the responsibility of explaining to their clients how to properly use a product in the best possible way to achieve the desired result they need.

These clients locate me online and ask for my opinion. In most cases, they jump ship. They are convinced with my explanation and order from me instead.

As the saying goes, "What is watched, grows". I reviewed my business lately and discovered that I am most successful in selling GNLD’s natural weight loss supplements called GR2 and the miracle wonder product for farming and fishing called Super Gro. I absolutely love it when client call and say they used the products I sold them and it helped them.

I ensure I provide accurate information about GNLD products that might be beneficial to your health and general wellbeing and I allow you make the decision to purchase.

In fact, people who have registered under me decided to register after I offered a solution to their problem and they decided on their own to ask for the company’s registration form. Usually it is because they want to buy more of the product but at the cheaper price of about 20% less reserved for only distributors.

And for the record, my business is growing. I may not have millions in the bank but unlike when I started my GNLD business last year, I can now afford to buy, stock and ship regular products to my customers, my business can pay for my website, and I can afford to invest in marketing materials like customized flyers, brochures and DVDs that will help generate more sales.

That is business building based on integrity. That is more of what we need in this nation.

If you are thinking that there is no room at the top, then think again. As with any company, there is always room at the top. It depends on the effort you put and the strategy you adopt. People in business can get to the top without ripping people off their hard earned time and money.

NOTE TO ugwum007

My apologies ugwum007. It was noble for you to look for a part time job even as a student.

Thank you for making this issue public. As the saying goes, evil thrives when good men do nothing. And from your later comment, I understood that the police have visited the company so I believe it has come to their notice.

Believe it or not, I am also in a habit of reporting irregularities to the company staff and I intend forwarding your post to those I know within the company.

I do hope our inconsiderate ASUU calls of their strike so you can resume back to your studies.

However, if you still need to job hunt, it is my hope that your experience will make you wiser when filtering any job advert so you would be able to identify genuine vacancies in future.

Not having a company name even if there is an address and if there is a number to call, the person at the other end of the line speaking with a bad diction could be signs of something not being quite right.

However, in this our great country Nigeria, there is no end to what people would do for money.

God help us all!
