The governors of the 36 states of the federation are expected to converge in Sokoto on Friday, for a two-day retreat organised by the Nigeria Governors Forum secretariat.

According to the programme of events, all the 36 governors would arrive Sokoto on Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. They would then be given a tour of some projects executed by the state government. The day would end with a welcome dinner hosted by Governor Aliyu Wammako.

The retreat, themed, Good Governance and the Imperative for Managing and Leaving a Sustainable Legacy, would commence officially on Saturday.

The first session would be chaired by the Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido , while papers would be presented by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah, and nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka.

Thereafter, Governors Rotimi Amaechi, Godswill Akpabio, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Abiola Ajimobi and Seriake Dickson would discuss the papers presented.

The second session, chaired by the former NGF chairman and former Governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, would focus on the topic, Deepening Democracy and Federalism in Nigeria – the role of states. A former Liberian President, Amos Sawyer, alongside the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Waziri Tambuwal, and former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, would present the lead papers on this topics, while the discussants would be Governors Kayode Fayemi, Sule Lamido, Olusegun Mimiko and Sullivan Chime.

Governor Isa Yuguda would chair the afternoon session which would discuss the Economy. Bode Augusto and Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Lamido Sanusi would present papers, while Governors Babatunde Fashola, Muazu Aliyu, Peter Obi, Ibrahim Dankwambo and Ibikunle Amosun would be the discussants.

Shortly after the session on economy, would be a session to discuss National Security which would be chaired by Aliyu Gusau, a former National Security Adviser, NSA.

Papers under the topic would be presented by the current NSA, Sambo Dasuki; former Director General of the National Security Organisation, NSO, Umaru Shinkafi, and a former Israeli Defence Intelligence spokesperson, Ephraim Lapid.

Governors Murtala Nyako, Kashim Shettima, Gabriel Suswam and Emmanuel Uduaghan would be the discussants.
