Contrary to insinuations in some quarters, owners of properties demolished for the construction of the 32 km long Sango Ota – Akute- Ojodun Abiodun road have been going to Abeokuta, the State capital to collect compensation cheques.

This development has put paid to the thought of some people that the State was only interested in pulling down the structure and was not willing to pay owners.

One of such owners, Mr. Akinwale Akiniyi from Alagbole who got his cheque expressed surprise that the cheques were actually waiting for collection as he got his without any delay.

“I am surprised when I got to Abeokuta and within minutes was given my cheque, the process of collecting the compensation cheque was stress free and very fast. This is different from what some people want us to believe, the government actually meant business and was willing to compensate us as promised” he told newsmen.

He therefore enjoined others who are yet to collect their compensation to do so without delay as the cheques are waiting for collection.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Arc Olamilekan Adegbite affirmed that no fewer than a quarter of those affected had actually collected their cheques, urging the remaining others concerned to come forward and collect theirs.

“The affected people should pick their cheques, they should realise that government wants the best for them. We are not discriminating at the point of payment, every one who presents identification numbers is paid” Adegbite pointed out.

He assured that the process of collecting the cheques is easy and urged that people should support and embrace government’s policies on infrastructural development and urban renewal, saying that they were meant to bring about even development of all parts of the State.
