My Sienna 98, left home yesterday only for the driver to call me about 20minutes later to tell me that the car stopped on the way. I thought it was battery problem, as I went to help him out with my own battery.
He put my battery in the car and it started and stopped. It didn't start again. I called a auto electrician who checked it and told me that my kick is okay and he can't find any electrical fault that I should call a mechanic to confirm if the engine is still okay. Another auto electrician said the same thing.
This morning, one of my mechanic friend checked told me that the engine is not turning. Infact that the engine has packed up. He suggested a full replacement of the engine or half engine to be bought.
NB
I need to know what is the price of a full toyota sienna engine (98 model). Please any other suggestion is welcome.

Your description of the car problem is not clear.

Are you saying the engine cranks (turns) but doesn't start or that it doesn't crank at all? Please, leave what the auto mechanics/electricians said. Am asking you as what you observed, since you were there.

If it cranks, does it sound weird? Just to know if your timing belt has given up. But your camshaft sensor should tell you if its timing belt/chain related issue via scan tool.

When I got there, we put in my own car battery it started and went off within 5seconds. The driver tried again and I was just hearing kur-kur-kur. After sometime, he suggested we call a auto electrician. (I also obderved that the battery terminal head was very hot and it seems to be as if it weakens battery).
The two auto electricians confirmed that it wasn't a kick problem.
The other mechanic(he is not a specialist in Toyota) said it may be that it is metal, that the engine is not turning.
He then said that I may need to buy a new engine or half engine.
NB
Also, there was oil in the engine(I can't say how thick or light). But they said that Sienna 98 engines can pack up anytime.

Sounds like a seized engine. In that case, the mechanic could be right.

But I wouldnt stop there though. I would try and rotate the crankshaft manually with sizeable spanner/socket via Crankshaft pulley lock nut, with the gear in Neutral. Whatever happens then will tell me if the engine has packed up or the problem is elsewhere.

About '98 Toyota Sienna packing up anytime like they claimed. I wont comment on it, since i know little about Toyota. They could be right or wrong.

I would suggest you try another mechanic. Dont tell him what the others said. But if he say the same thing that your engine has failed, then take heart and source for another engine, if you can afford it now.

That's all I can think off, unless someone else has a better solution.

@Ikenna,
Is it possible for a higher model fuel pump, to affect the engine of a car?
..
.
.
I changed the Sienna's fuel pump with a 'new' V8 fuel pump a day before the engine siezed.
My car has V6 engine and has been using a V6 fuel pump. But the mechanic that came to check the fuel pump said that he will replace it with a V8 fuel pump.
The next day the engine siezed.

Dum dum dum another one bites the dust.

I must become Toyota mechanic grin.

Sounds like a couple of shoemakers are trying to buy cow for christmas grin grin

If you ever have a problem with your car the first thing you do is check for a dtc (check engine light)
that will eliminate the crank sensors, timing chain, belt broke which you can confirm by taking off the cover or valve cover.

Winch cry last night pikin die today there is a way to start your car and spray some gasoline into the throttle body to excluded fuel pump can also measure pressure at fuel rail. Why people change your fuel pump in the first place and not the filter is mind boggling

merry xmas (to your mechanic)

the fuel pump failed. Two different mechanics confirmed this. Infact the second mechanic was referred to me by one my mentors, a senior citezen.
@Sultan, are you saying it could be the changed fuel pump that caused the engine to sieze?
As Per Merry xmas to my mechanic, am not so sure.... cos the second guy is not even my regular mechanic.
Also who knows the price of a belgium V6 engine for toyota sienna.
