it only change its name to the commonwealth

A protectorate is a country that's protected by a larger, stronger one. Protectorate is another word for “protected country.

An empire is made up of division.. each country is called region within the empire.

Western Nigeria was never part of the of UK, it was just part of the british empire. people mistake british empire for the UK. The UK was part of the British empire. There were other countries which were part of the british empire. Western nigeria was one of them.

In 1959 was the UK not country. The UK was a country in 1959. So was western Nigeria.
And the people of Western Nigeria at that time call them self Nigerian. So when they refer to nigeria. each of the unite in the british empire was referring to itself. and not what you now call Nigeria.

Just like you had the Northern Rhodesia(Zambia) and Southern Rhodesia(zimbabwe). They call them self rhodesian .. The people of northern nigerian too called themself nigerian. It did not mean they were in the same country. So we had western Nigeria, eastern nigeria and northern nigeria. they were separate.

And people have wrongly assume that we were part of UK. We were part of the british empire.

the reason why they draw the assumption is that people think, that british empire was a country, british empire was not a country and western Nigeria was not inside UK.

For you to know that western Nigeria , eastern Nigeria and northern nigeria were separated from each other, if you look at the document or the act. It tell you. That colony and protectorates of western Nigeria. and the protectorate of eastern nigeria and the protectorate of Northern nigeria were separate from each other. and the document clearly tell you that.
