One look at Nigeria and the potentials abound withing the territories, the abundant human and natural resources, tapped and untapped, it show all the ingredients of a great nation. And yet the country is still struggling to catch up with the tail lights of development.

This one step forward, twelve steps backward stance in Nigeria's development can only be attributed to corruption. From top to bottom in Nigeria's sphere of nationhood, the virus eats deep into the fabric of the country's existence.

Transparency International's corruption Perception index for 2013, places Nigeria in a woeful 144th position out of the 177 countries.

Food for thought or call to action. For the fact that our leaders are in front of the charge for a corruption free Nigeria, one is tempted to say, those are mere lip service. Transparency's corruption index shows Nigeria scored 25 out of a total of 100, two points down from the 27 the country scored last year.

The organisation say, measurements are done through perception of the functionality of government and other development indices. Like access to information system, rules governing those in public offices, accountability among public and private sectors and effective public institutions.

As simple as these criteria may be, a country like Nigeria should be confident at scaling through the hurdles, given the heavy media coverage the governments anti-corruption drive is getting........ http://www.searchlightnigeria.com/2013/12/nigeria-still-wallowing-in-depth-of.html#.Up3CssRDuDQ
