The war of words between the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Ameachi, seems not to be over as the minister has described the latest call for her probe by the governor as a campaign of falsehood against her person.

Ameachi had called on the House of Representatives to probe the Minister of Finance and Minister of Water Resources, Stella Ochekpe over the alleged seizure of the World Bank and African Development Bank loans approved by the National Assembly for the state.

He had said, “The Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is using her position to undermine the safety and health of the people of Rivers State. I can’t afford to give all Rivers people bottled water, but all I can assure you is to ensure the provision of potable water.

“But the Minister of Finance has refused to release it and I think I should put that before you (House Committee on Water Resources). They want Rivers people to die.”

Okonjo-Iweala while replying in a statement issued on Tuesday night said it was “unfortunate that Amaechi is persisting in his outrageous and totally illogical campaign of falsehood” against her person.

The statement signed by her Special Adviser on Communication, Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu described as “complete fabrication” Amaechi’s statement that the minister was responsible for the delay of the African Development Bank water project.

It reads in part, “As the ministry had previously explained, the project is going through the processes and must get final approval from the board of the African Development Bank and the Federal Executive Council before the Minister can sign it.

“So, the idea that Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has refused to sign it is preposterous and totally inaccurate.

“Dr. Okonjo-Iweala is not responsible for managing the N257bn that Rivers State has received from the Federation Account within the first 10 months of 2013 so the suggestion that she is somehow responsible for the challenges confronting the state doesn’t make sense.”

The question to ask now is, what has this coffin-shaped head Governor done with the N257 billion given the State from the Federation Account for the past 10 months? undecided Amaechi is becoming a nuisance lately!

I love the concluding part of Aunty Ngozi's statement.
If Amechi can not provide portable water for 'dying' Rivers people with over $1.5 billon in 10 months, what is the guarantee that he will not spend the $200 million on paying protesters in Sokoto and London?

Tell us the new project embarked on by the government his year.
Ameachi only performed well in his first tenure.
Since eyeing the federal politics,he has abandon Rivers State.

As per development in Rivers State, they are about to commission about 300 primary schools, they are about to commission another 70 health centres, to add to the 60 they have commissioned before. They are about to commission the Kelsey Harrison Hospital at Emenike Street, there is a new one inside Rivers State University of Science and Technology campus. There is a partnership between the rivers state government and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), for which they have paid NDDC about N960 million, for the Mother and Child Hospital and NDDC is expected to bring about N900 million to make it N1.8 billion for the hospital. The stadium is about to be completed and many more.

After six and half years in office, we are now been told that the people of the state are about to die of thirst, who knew. can any of u apologist explain this , how is it that the state can pay with cash a $50 million private jet ,but need to borrow $200 million to improve the portable water system.which is more important?.
This guy call amaechi is complete criminal now you can see why they join apc…because they knows JONATHAN will get them after 2015…..because after 2015 he will not have office in government again..he was doing all this nonsense because he want to remain in government so that all his looting will be saved

When Amaechi went to buy the private jet which cost over $45million(excluding maintenance fees) did he demand for a loan?...now to provide portable water for Rivers people after over 6 years in office he now says it can't be possible unless he gets a $200million loan..

Please amaechi should spare us all these unnecessary distractions

In response to the two posters above, governor ameachi bought that jet to save rivers people the cost of running an old jet which the state had used since. Futhermore it is a fraction of what would have cost to provide water so they decided to do the comprehensive borrowing to execute the project once and for all. It says alot that the guy is willing to provide water for his people.

Let's talk about his lordship, goodluck jonathan who spends 58.47 million dollars that's over 9 billion naira, to run his presidential airfleet annually. That money equals a new rivers state government jet every year. So you folks never get tired of attacking ameachi for buying one jet during his administration while your man is spending that same amount of money used to buy the jet just to maintain his 10 others every year. And this is an administration with no scheme whatsoever on providing water for the nigerians people; and they have the guts to attack others for trying. Pathetic.

P/s: tell pres. Jonathan and his people to release rivers government jet they grounded since. He has 10 jets already. Does he need to add rivers people's jet to his fleet? Please return!

from the way you listed these things its very obvious you haven't been to Rivers state , but lifted these so-called projects from the online projects being brandished by Amaechi. Please go to Rivers state and look for 250 schools, it shouldn't be difficult finding at least 150 of them since Rivers state isn't that big.
