[b]A university undergraduate has been detained by the Delta State Police Command, Asaba for allegedly kidnapping a six-year-old girl, (names withheld).
The police identified the suspect as Mr. Samuel Omogiade of No. 56 Okere Ugborikoko Road, Warri.
Police sources confirmed that the suspect is a student of Novena University in Ogume (Amai Campus) of the department of Energy and Petroleum Studies.
Police sources further confirmed that the police were on a routine patrol of churches and vulnerable points, when they received information that a six-year-old girl, later identified as Miss. Elohoh Faith, had been kidnapped from the premises of Living Faith Church, at water resources, off Effurun/Sapele road Enerhen.
According to police, based on this information, the police swung into action and the victim’s abductor was arrested. The little girl, whose hands and face were tied with cello tape, was also rescued.
The suspect was arrested just as he was trying to check into Garden Hotel at Enerhen junction in Warri.
The suspect according to the police had made useful confessional statements to the police, while the victim had reunited with her family.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ayodele Ikechukwu Aduba, has advised parents and guardians to always keep eyes on their children/wards both at home and public places, so that they would not fall prey to criminals.
He also assured members of the public, that adequate security measures were already in place to ensure smooth and peaceful yuletide.[/b]
