Ojukwu was never the founder of APGA party. Chiefs Chris Okoye, Chekwas Okorie, Onwuka Ukwa, Maxi Okwu were the founders of APGA. Chief Ojukwu was then a member ANPP now APC the Buhari party. Ojukwu also endorsed Buhari as the presidential candidate of ANPP and held a lot of meeting with him at his Enugu home. Ojukwu later decamped to join APGA. It was said that Ojukwu decamp to APGA was a plan between Ojukwu and Buhari to frustrate Obasanjo in the east. Even though Ojukwu was APGA flag bearer yet he campaigned for Buhari. On the 12 April 2003, the APGA won 1.4% of popular votes and 2 of 360 seats in the House of Representatives of Nigeria and no seats in the Senate. Its candidate at the presidential elections of 19 April 2003, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu won 3.3% of the vote. Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Ikemba Nnewi from All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to APGA no doubt raised the bar and the eventual victory of Governor Peter Obi. In gubernatorial elections of April 2011, Chief Rochas Okorocha (APGA), was elected governor of Imo state, by polling 15% more votes than incumbent governor Ikedi Ohakim (PDP) making the party present in two states with Anambra state as the party's first presence.

BUHARI/OJUKWU PACT

One would recall the condition in the pact between Buhari and Ojukwu that was well enunciated by the Chairman of APGA, Chief Chekwas Okorie. Chief Chekwas confirmed the meeting between Buhari and Ojukwu on April 17, 2003 at Enugu to formalize the understanding of merely working together when they became the candidates of their respective parties into a written pact between Buhari and Ojukwu. Chief Okorie announced the ingredient of the written pact between Buhari-ANPP and Ojukwu-APGA as follows:

We (ANPP/APGA) met and agreed that in the event of
a run off, the weaker party in the result
will support the stronger one.
For more, See This Day on line, April 18, 2003.

During Ojukwu protracted illness. Governor Obi, abandoned his troops and the quintessential raison de'tre for establishing APGA. Events proved that he viewed APGA as a mere vehicle to achieve his personal ambition. Records had it that he never fully funded the party in Anambra State nor bought even a bus for APGA in any of the four South-East states under the hegemony of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In fact, it is on record as well that all efforts made by APGA leadership for Governor Obi to appreciate the imperative of territorial ambition espoused by the great Ezeigbo Gburugburu fell on deaf ears. He even refused to pay adequate attention to Anambra South Senatorial bye-election in Ikemba's district and hence lost an election which pundits had awarded to APGA before the 2007 election. One is at a loss to locate the passionate followership a factionalized APGA has which Mr Anarado cuddles. Otherwise, is there any reason why Governor Obi couldn't organize one local government council election eight years in office?

It can be said that Governor Obi's casual and non-committal attitude to APGA affairs more than any other factor led to the exit of the founders of APGA party Chiefs Chris Okoye, Chekwas Okorie and others, In February 2013 APGA party merged with the Action Congress of Nigeria, the All Nigeria Peoples Party, and the Congress for Progressive Change to form the All Progressives Congress

After the merger Senator Annie Okonkwo, Senator Okonkwo told the Vanguard that the new mega party was the only party that would lead to the realization of Igbo presidency. According to him the ruling PDP would most likely pick President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential flag bearer in 2015, pointing out that with a candidate of Igbo extraction contesting on the banner of APC, there was the likelihood that the party would win. On the allegation that the APGA National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh was not part of the merger talks, Okonkwo said: “When all the governors of the opposition parties met including Governor Obi. Owelle Rochas Okorocha who is the leader of the party said that the party participated fully and endorsed the merger. I came here on behalf of the leadership of the party to represent APGA, so anybody saying something contrary is on his own,” he said.

Please note that within this period of APGA merger Governor Obi never made any statement except Chief Umeh, who was against the merger. The merger could no longer go ahead in Anambra state as Governor Obi later withdrew after he has succeeded in drawing the attention of the president whom he had longed so much to be close with for power as Umeh was threatening him from every angle. Finally, the president invited Obi to Abuja from where they became friends that made governor Obi to turn against APC party. Therefore, with all this happening is Governor Obi really sincere with APGA and Ndigbo or just for his selfish interest.

Hmm... I thought Buhari and Ojukwu were arch enemies the way its been portrayed by some die hard Igbo supremacists on this forum? They were really best of friends even in politics. Buhari must have missed Ojukwu so bad.
If Ojukwu was still alive,he would have joined APC and supported his friend. He wouldn't have been a bigot like Obi and his cohorts. That's fact!!

As amusing as it sounds, there is a grassroot movement in the South East that many ordinary/everyday people identify with and can sway vote for any politician should Election be made compulsorily free and fair.

The grassroot movement is MASSOB. Like them or hate them, they have the number, the time, persuasive power, influence and capacity to make or mar any politicians in SE provided free election is guaranteed.

In a bid to be relevant in this fourth republic, the political equation in this present Nigeria has made it imperative outside the dubious rigging that Politics is now local and provided you have the support of your base, no man or party can relegate you.

In a bid to unite the South East electorates who suffered as one people during the civil war and desires a common identity for collective bargaining for the betterment of our people. An identity which the SW clinched in 1999 notwithstanding falling short of the requirements needed for a political party was still registered. We have learnt so many things from SW including ethnocentric politics though very late but are determined to play it this time around.

Furthermore, since Ojukwu is a hero in SE and Massob a grassroot movement and APGA being the first Political Party to be registered by the initiative of S/Easterners hence the adoption.

Much publicity here and there over the years have made the people to seek for a common identity, a brand and a symbol to remember our past heroes which will in turn give the SE political bloc a great bargaining power to be sought after by any would be President of Nigeria as far as we are still part of this Union..

The South East have settled for APGA, though work in progress, we look forward to getting sophisticated in the nearest future as we form a formidable force with other breakaway Eastern Regional States.

We watched and read all this happen and it is recorded in the archives of the internet. Obi was jealous of Rochas and knew that Rochas would probably be the man from the Igbo area in the merger. That informed his late minute withdrawal alongside others. Victor Umeh lead the APGA-APC talks only to much later change sides in a plot to discredit Okorocha probably because he was promised something rosy by Jonathan.

You use every opportunity to expose your stup1dy. How on earth will Obi be jealous of Okorosha? Tell me one reason? Obi was responsible for Okorosha becoming governor of Imo state today. Okorosha was virtually living in Awka during the time he was kneeling and begging Obi to hand him APGA ticket. How long has your Okorosha been in the party (APGA) to determine who will take the party to any merger whatsoever?

How could somebody that begged to be given ticket now turn out to be the leader of the party? Obi is not in any competiton with Okorosha, even the APC people knew that what Okorosha is bringing to the table (Imo state) is nothing to them as an impact economically and otherwise, that was why they could spend a fortune and do everything possible to have Anambra which they eventually lost. Which they knew if won by them would give them major boast in the heart of Igboland. But as it stands now its GEJ till 2019.

APC knew that if they could get such mega states of Lagos in SW, Rivers in SS, Anambra in SE and Kano/Kaduna in North then thy would have started the journey to the Aso Rock. Stop your foolishness

How did you think Obi will take APGA to merge with the Islamic-Yorobar APC? That was the last thing he would do.

Obi is not sincere with APGA. He is a selfish man and a thief. I am ashamed of him as a governor of my beloved state. Ojukwu must be crying in his grave!

I see why my gullible anambra people have been avoiding this thread like a plague. The sycophant acclaimed Chino just spewed his usual trash and left shamelessly.

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has said his Imo State counterpart, Rochas Okorocha, and the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chief Victor Umeh, are ungrateful to him for sustaining and maintaining APGA.

At a press briefing in Awka on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to Obi, Mr. Mike Udah, said it was unfortunate that Okorocha and Umeh were castigating the Anambra State Governor, accusing him of trying to sell APGA to another party.

Udah said were it not for Obi, APGA would not have been anywhere today.

He said rather than taking APGA away, it was Okorocha and Umeh that had sold APGA to a new party, the All Progressives Congress, which he said would do no good to Anambra people.

Udah said the Anambra governor had no apologies for having a working relationship with the Peoples Democratic Party-run Federal Government of President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said the relationship was for the good of Nigeria and the state in particular, adding that the partnership had yielded many dividends for the state.

Udah said Umeh ought to know that Obi was behind his meteoric rise to the national leadership of APGA, which gave him a platform in the polity.

Umeh, he said, should  show gratitude to Obi.

Udah said, “In any relationship, there are always senior partners and junior partners. It is wrong when the junior partner claims that he is a senior partner.”

Debunking Umeh’s claim of standing by Obi all through his political trials, Udah said Umeh was not anywhere near Obi before he became governor.

He said it was Obi that brought Umeh from nowhere to take over as national chairman of APGA when the former National Chairman left.

Udah said, “He was said to be a treasurer of APGA. One other person was the chairman. And somewhere along the line, things fell apart and that chairman ceased to be chairman and Umeh was elevated to be chairman.

“In what organisation have you seen a situation where the chairman is cast overboard and his successor has to be the treasurer. We have so many offices before you get to treasurer. Do you not agree with me that it took the influence of somebody to get that done?

“Somebody was picked from obscurity, he was nursed, was nurtured, fed, dressed up and he came to limelight. Instead of appreciating what I have done for you, you do not feel well to show appreciation to the person who did all these for you.”

Meanwhile, the crisis rocking APGA took a new turn on Monday as Umeh and the party’s former National Secretary, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, faulted the appointment of Chief Maxi Okwu as its interim chairman.

Umeh and Shinkafi spoke with journalists at a press briefing in Abuja.

They said the party national caucus, which met in Abuja on Saturday and made Okwu the interim chairman, did not have the constitutional powers to make such an appointment.

The caucus meeting also appointed Shinkafi as interim secretary of the party.

Obi is said to be behind the caucus meeting.

http://premiumtimesng.com/news/133353-apga-begs-okorocha-to-rescind-his-decision-to-join-apc.html

The party frowned at the attitude of its erstwhile National Chairman, Victor Umeh, who it claimed “has been working surreptitiously with C-21 which he serves as director of publicity to mortgage the soul of APGA for a mess of portage in the political proposal called APC.
“We believe this is the reason Chief Umeh has been silent on Owelle Okorocha’s plan to join APC,” the party said.

.....Meaning Umeh was planning to join APC and he withdrew his intentions after Jonathan bought him over with a keg of Otuoke palm wine. Now the story is sounding more interesting than I thought.

Is this a question? Mscheeeew!

Obi is the fisherman,APGA is the bait,to be discarded once the fish is firmly hooked.

The journey just started. . .

It was actually good to align with the government at the centre, GEJ had actually favoured Anambra because of that. The Fed govt. refunded the money spent previously on Fed roads and remitted counterpart fundings. So I support the alignment 100%.
But the impact of the benefits of the alignment is yet to be felt because it appears the savings made from the federal support was also channeled to the pocket of the Thief.
Another good thing about Obi was his refusal to contribute to OBJ second Niger bridge scam. In which he demanded that the bridge should be a Partnership project with contributions from Anambra and Delta. That refusal to me was good b/c Niger bridge shld be a completely Fed.project
Okorosha must he always be in the opposition? This is Nigeria, he could deny Imo of Fed presence.
The issue of making it look like Anambra will not vote Ngige(raising tribalism ) was part of the whole rigging plan. It was meant to serve as a justification for the purchased results allotted to Obiano by INEC. Anambra was actually ready to vote out Obi regardless of party affiliations because of his lackluster performance and stifling of the financial flow within the State particularly non payment of minimum wage and LGA scraping.
