Late last month, many users of the Airtel BIS plan PC's and phones other than BB devices got a message from Airtel announcing the plan to stop the BIS subscription from working on other devices on the 3rd of December.

There was so much apprehension and confusion, those that already subscribed were trying to use their data up before the d-day while others were so scared to subscribe.

But up till today, 8th December people not only still use the BIS subscription but others are still able to subscribe.

The truth remains that majority of those subscribing for the Airtel BIS dont use it on a BB phone.
A BB user would rather subscribe for BIS with other three gsm networks than Airtel for the following reasons:

1. Airtel BIS Unlimited is 2gb data at 1,500 naira while other networks offer 3gb data at a cheaper price of 1,000 naira.

2. Airtel have one of the poorest networks when compared conclusively with others.

For these reasons I don't see a wise BIS user subscribing to the Airtel plan when he/she can get more data at a cheaper rate and better network quality.

So, if Airtel put a stop to BIS working on other devices they would surely be the highest losers, that is why they are still foot dragging on the issue and coupled with the serious out cry on the social networks, they already know what to expect unless they:

1. Reduce the cost of the the BIS subscription.
2. Increase data allocated to BIS.
3. Improve their data network strength.

The first two might be easy to achieve but not the third because of the time it would take them to fulfil it and then start wooing subscribers back to their network.

At the end of everything, the consumer is better off for it all.
