please I just installed xampp on my pc but mysql won't start, it only shows "Attempting to start mysql service " till eternity.

my hard disk is not partitioned.

Check MySQL Log files in this directory: C:\xampp\mysql\data (this would help pinpoint what the problem is)

Also check if no other program or service uses the default MySql port. You can do this by using this command:

netstat -an | findstr "3306"

1. Press the windows key on your keyboard
2. Search for "cmd.exe"
3. click "cmd.exe"
4. Then type the command

The cmd interface is something like this

It could help a lot if you can post the error message it gives you from the control panel.

I have had similar issue before on my former machine. My Apache server couldn't start because another program was using one of the ports: 80

I had to open up services and manually stop the culprit and end it from starting automatically next time since it's a non essential service anyway.

Just click on Xampp control panel and start mysql from there

for someone that might have the same problem later, I will post what I did to make it work.
Problem : I once installed mysql server on my pc, but I uninstalled it before installing xampp, though I deleted all the previous mysql folder but there seems to remain a leftover file that is stooping the xampp mysql from running.
solution : I search. for windows command line (cmd) from the start menu as directed by slyr0z, right click on it and select run as administrator then type in this code [b]sc delete mysql[/].
that's all.
