Following up from last year’s equally-brilliant ad for Turkish Airlines, basketball superstar Kobe Bryant and football icon Lionel Messi compete to take selfies in some of the world’s most renowned and exotic locations. The ad takes them everywhere from the African desert to the Great Wall of China before they both wind up in the Turkish metropolis. “The Selfie Shootout” couldn’t be more timely as “selfie” was recently crowned word of the year.

Got to hand it to Turkish Airlines — they are willing to pay for two of the most expensive sports sponsors in the world, then they have put together some pretty clever ads for them.

The latest has Kobe Bryant and Lionel Messi — apparently both having time on their hands as they try to recover from injuries — flying around the globe taking “selfies” in front of famed locations. Or with a lion. Or a shark.

Both superstars are on the road to recovering from injuries.

Barcelona’s Messi has been recovering from a thigh strain back home in Argentina and is expected to be ready for action in January.

Lakers star Bryant is getting over an Achilles problem, and has been tipped to make his NBA season comeback.
