Caligula was the third emperor of the roman empire. The horse in question was named Incitatus (a Latin adjective meaning "swift" and it was the favored horse of the roman emperor. The horse had for itself a stable of marble, an ivory manger, purple blankets and a collar of precious stones.

Moving back to the topic; yeah i know it sounds crazy, but Caligula actually wanted to make his favored horse a senator. Unfortunately, he died before he could do so!

But why would he do such a thing?

Right! Its insane, but according to a Historian - Aloys Winterling ( Author of "Caligula: A Biography" ), the treatment of Incitatus were designed to humiliate and insult senators and other elites.
