From taking a chomp out Branislav Ivanovic’s arm to being embroiled in a summer-long transfer saga and setting the Premier League alight with his goalscoring prowess, it seems everyone has been talking about the feisty Liverpool striker this year.

And the bitey Uruguayan’s busy year has been reflected in Twitter’s list of trending topics in the UK, as he heads the list of football talking points for 2013.

The social network have released a comprehensive list of the year’s top events and trending tops for a number of subjects, with Suarez topping the football chart, ahead of #LFC, with Swansea surprisingly featuring in third place.

Aston Villa are also in the top five and events such as the transfer deadline day and Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement also feature in the top ten.

Football dominates 2013′s most tweeted topics overall on Twitter, with seven of the year’s top ten events centring around the sport.

Top of the list was Manchester United’s 2-1 Champions League loss to Real Madrid in March, with England’s 2-2 draw in Brazil in June placing fourth and Real Madrid’s 2-0 second leg win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-final from April ranking fifth.

Wigan’s FA Cup win, England’s friendly defeat of Scotland and World Cup qualifying decider against Poland and Bayern Munich’s Champions League demolition of Barcelona also all feature in the top ten most discussed events of the year.

This year has also seen a host of clubs and football personalities join the social network, with Manchester United launching an official account and legends Paul Gascoigne and Luis Figo signing up.
