OPC Supports South-south Presidency by DaHitler(m): 10:05pm On Jun 18, 2006
JUST back from medical treatment abroad, Dr. Frederick Fasheun, founder and leader of the ethnic militia, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), has thrown his weight behind calls for a candidate from the South-South to succeed President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007.

Fasheun said that since some regions have held the presidential office for long periods while others have not even tasted it once, it is only fair if some concession were made to give all a sense of belonging.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Chapter of the United Rivers and Bayelsa States Indigenes Association (URBSIAL), has enjoined Nigerians to rally round the quest of the South-South to produce the Nigerian President in 2007.

Speaking through its president, George Olungwe, the association noted that since independence, the leadership of this country has come from other geo-political regions of the country despite the fact that the South-South virtually sustains the economy of the nation through the natural resources in its area.

He said it is sad that "past and present leaders of this country have failed woefully to appreciate the magnitude of the problems faced by the people of this region."

Olungwe said that if a president from South-South region is elected, "he or she will have the political will, to a great extent, (to resolve the problem) and some of the critical development decisions can easily be taken".

"The South-South has more than capable, intelligent and focused people, both in government and outside the government, to rule this country. It is erroneous for anybody to think that the zone does not have capable presidential materials", he said.

Dr. Frederick Fasheun released his pledge for support of a South-South Presidency shortly after he was released from prison by the degenerate that has just wasted the South-West's alloted time for power.

Do you think the pledge of support from OPC will help or hurt the drive for a South-South Presidency?

You ppl are trying to drag the SW into this rubbish lil by lil.

Can we forget about the presidency for once and deal with the riot in the north?

From 2006, the need to resurface?

No one is dragging the SW into anything. The SW voted for GEJ and even Ribadu.
