Miss Omeghie Oluwadamilola Okoyomoh, a student of communication at the University of Ibadan has emerged winner of the maiden Inter-Universities Speech contest organized by Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA).

Five English speaking ECOWAS countries fielded one university undergraduate each. The competition, which held at the weekend in Accra, had participants from Gambia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria. The speech contest was designed to serve as a platform for promoting knowledge of money laundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF) regimes in West African countries. It also sought to empower the youths for the propagation of anti-corruption and money laundering campaigns.
After carefully assessing all the contestants, the panel of five judges from South Africa, Cape Verde, Ghana and Nigeria declared Okoyomoh winner. For her excellent performance, she received a lap top, a plaque, a certificate and the director- general’s cash prize of US$ 1,000.
Gabriel Baguna from the University of Gambia came second. He left with a lap top, a plaque, a certificate and US$ 750 cash. Robert Jasper of the University of Liberia came third. He was given a lap top, a plaque, a certificate and US$ 500.
