An international conference and workshop on oilfield biotechnology and petroleum microbiology holds April 1-3 2009 in Abuja, Nigeria. This event will bring renowned oilfield R& scientists and experts from North America, Europe, Asia, and South America to Nigeria to share their expertise and experience in oilfield biotechnology/petroleum microbiology. The event include 2-day (March 30 and 31, 2009) pre-conference courses on Oilfield Microbiology and on Bioremediation.

This is an opportunity for final year students or aspiring graduate students in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Geochemistry, Petroleum Engineering, etc, to update their knowledge and intimate themselves with current technologies in oilfield biotechnology and reservoir microbiology.

Graduate students are encouraged to submit abstracts that is synthesized from their thesis or research projects. Limited numbers of travel grants are available to well qualified students. Submitted abstracts from students would compete for a US$1000 worth of library collection on Petroleum and Oilfield Microbiology.

This conference is promoted by the University of Calgary (UofC, Canada) Petroleum/Reservoir Microbiology Group with the support of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (Abuja). It is organized by Cells & Environmental Systems Inc. (Canada) in partnership with its Nigerian affiliate.
