Yobe state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, Saturday said the state will disgrace its detractors at next week’s local government polls, insisting that election can hold in the state and that there is peace and security.

Addressing a large crowd at the August 27 Stadium in Damaturu, the governor said the suggestion of INEC that “election could not hold next year in the state was misjudgment and it would be proven on December 28 which is scheduled for local government polls in the state to be wrong.

He called on all the people of Yobe state and supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) not to be deterred by the antics of the opposition in their attempts to dethrone democracy particularly in the state on account of the insecurity situation in the North-east.

The governor told the rally that his administration was committed to ensuring peace and stability against the backdrop of the statement credited to INEC’s chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, that election may not hold in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states, which has continued to raise questions on the political game plan of the opposition PDP in its preparation for the 2015 general election.

Gaidam said the need to elect local government chairmen was in the interest of the people of Yobe state, adding that, “the emergence of the APC as a great opposition to PDP is the reality of the understanding facts about leadership in Nigeria.”

He therefore, called on all supporters of the party in the state to come out and support the party during the coming local government election so as to provide the people the desired leadership that demonstrate the spirit of togetherness and brotherly love.

Also speaking during the rally, a former House of Representatives member, Alhaji Almajiri Geidam, said, APC in Yobe state would not join issues with PDP or its representative in Yobe state. According to him, people should continue to pray for peace in the state.
