If South Africa as Africa's largest economy is 84th in the world in per capita, then there is no need for comparison because Africa is miles backward.

You are very wrong. Equitorial guinea an African country has a better GDP per Capital than many developed economy. GDP per capital is a function of the GDP and the total population. China has the 2nd largest economy in the world and their per capital is way behind so many countries. Including african countries. Hope you understand.

mauritius a country that got independence 8 year after us and without any petroleum reserve is now better than us at many things.
