The Nigerian U-20 women football team, the Falconets, on Sunday qualified for the final round of the World Cup qualifiers after defeating Tunisia 4-0 in the return leg match in Tunisia.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Nigeria won the first leg of the second round qualifiers match against Tunisia 4-0 at the National Stadium, Abuja, on Dec. 14.

The team’s Media Officer, Elizabeth Kah, told NAN in a telephone interview after the match on Sunday that the team was delighted to make it to the next round.

She said that Winifred Eyebhorid opened scoring for the team in the 13th minute of play, while Patience Okaeme scored the second goal, as the first half ended 2-0.

She said that Uchechi Sunday scored the third goal, while Patience Okaeme scored the fourth goal before the end of the second half.

Kah said that the Falconets would depart Tunisia on Tuesday to resume camp in Abuja, adding, however, that there would be no Christmas break for the players.

“We are coming back to Abuja to resume camp, there is no Christmas break for the team because we have to prepare hard for the final qualifying match, with the first leg match coming up on Jan.11.

“The team is going to face either South Africa or Tanzania in the final round qualifier matches to qualify for the World Cup,’’ she said.

NAN reports that two African countries will join 14 other nations at the 7th edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup which would take place in Canada between Aug. 4 and Aug. 24, 2014.
