The State Security Service on Tuesday in Abuja paraded a Lance Corporal in the Nigerian Air Force, Sulaiman Mohammed, and six others for allegedly kidnapping a businessman, Alhaji Abu Dankure, in Sokoto. Dankore, who spent five days with his captors, was released after paying $290,000 ransom (N46m), but he died 11 days later. Other suspects are the gang leader, Mustapha Isah, Mohammed Abubakar, Farouk Waziri, Mohammed Bukar, Usman Idah, and Abdullahi Musa. Assistant Director, SSS, Mr. Doyin Adetuberu, who briefed newsmen, said the suspects were caught after the mastermind of the criminal act, Isah, was arrested. He added that Isah confessed to the crime. Adetuberu said, “On November 6, 2013, Alhaji Abu Dankure, a prominent Sokoto- based businessman and philanthropist was kidnapped at his construction site, located in Kofar, Kwari area, along Western bye pass, Sokoto. Dankure was released by his captors on November 11, 2013 and died 11 days later”. According to him, Isah, a 31-year-old indigene of Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, who resides in Sabongari, Kano State, confessed that he rented a three-bedroom apartment in September 2013 at Mabera area of Sokoto, which he used for the kidnapping operation. Adetuberu explained that Isah also admitted to have collected the $290,000 ransom in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, after which he ordered the release of the victim. |
