While the government claims it was cutting the cost of governance to address dwindling revenues and mounting developmental needs, it has for years continued to direct scarce funds for the luxury of its officials, providing them with exotic cars, homes, and other perks while more than half of Nigerians live on less than a dollar per day. |

It is highly lugubrious, irresponsible and absolutely unjustifiable for the Vice President to spend over $13 million of public money on mere renovation of his quarters. In these times, the sensible thing would have been to drastically scale down the scope of the renovations, or seek private funds for such purpose. |

CFCfan: BTW, I wonder what kind of furnitures they buy. Could you scout for info on Google? I suspect the 2014 budget proposal should be on the Nigerian budget office's website. |

Uyi Iredia: Normally, they don't buy furniture. They just take the money and put it in their bank accounts. They include it in the annual budget of the presidency. How can someone change furniture every year? It is not possible to change your furniture every year. If you look through google search, you will find that Barack Obama uses the same furniture set in the Oval office where he attends to foreign leaders in the last five years. I have been using the same furniture sets for the past four years. My furniture looks almost as the same as I received it in 2010. Nigeria needs to change for the better before it is too late. 3 Likes |

payless:Lobatan! I would seriously question the sanity of an individual who buys new sets of furniture every year. The last major 'renovation' of the White House was in the early 90s, when Clinton was in office. He and Hillary raised a little over $500,000 from friends for that purpose. It is bordering on criminality for a developing nation to spend over $13million in 4 years on the VPs residence/guest houses. |

Is it not greatly disheartening when you see ordinary people, masses supporting these wicked people and their harsh economic policies (for example: oil subsidy removal) when at the same time, these people at the helms of our affairs subsidise their life and that of their families to the teeth? 1 Like |
