Another recent report on the Lagos-Kano railway by Reuters. Tinubu dogs will definitely hate to read this version. But do they have option? I dont think so. We will force it down their throats.

Travelling by train was millions of Nigerians preferred means of transport at the time of the country’s independence in 1960. But mismanagement by the Nigerian Railway Corporation meant that all of the country’s colonial-era trains ground to a halt within 30 years. A project to restore Nigeria's rail system was launched a decade ago and the Lagos-Kano line recently reopened.

By Sam Olukoya in Lagos

The Lagos train terminus is crowded with passengers as the orange train prepares to make the 1,126-kilometre journey to Kano.

With a combined population of over 30 million people, these two metropoles need to be connected today even more than they did in colonial times.

"That has been the premier flagship train line operations in Nigeria, from Lagos to Kano. It predates others, says Ndanusa Ndakotsu, assistant director public relations of the Nigerian Railway Corporation. "The colonial administration used it to bring produce from the hinterland, Kano. You remember the groundnuts, hides and skin, they were transported down to the Apapa port using the rail track, that was why it has still been the priority route up till today."

The Lagos-Kano train service is also gradually regaining its former reputation as the best way to get from south-western Nigeria to the north of the country.

Tayo Babatunde is one of those happy to travel by train.

"The reason why I prefer train is because of the roads," he says. "We have bad roads for vehicles except if somebody does not feel concern about his car. I cherish my car more than any other thing that is why I board the train."

A combination of pot-holed roads, poorly maintained vehicles and questionable driving habits have transformed Nigerian roads into death traps.

Although official statistics put the number of people killed annually on Nigerian roads at 4,500, it is believed that the actual figure is much higher. All this makes train travel a much safer option for the majority of Nigerians, who can’t afford to take intercity flights.

From one station to another there is a struggle to board the train even before it comes to a halt. With demand far outstripping supply, the coaches filled to the brim. Many passengers have to stand because there are not enough seats. this is a negative side of train travel in Nigeria:

"The disadvantage is about the rowdiness of the passengers," says Joseph Olalekan. "There is no limitation in accommodating the passengers into the coaches. According to these seaters now, it has a number, but there is no limitation to it."

The Nigerian Railway Corporation, however, is optimistic that all shortcomings will be addressed by the ongoing rehabilitation programme

Like I wrote on the other thread where Vanguard exposed some of the challenges facing the railway sector, these challenges should be confronted headlong and solved.

Challenges should not be the basis for propagandists and evil people to rubbish the entire process.

Although I don't see rail competing with road in mass transit in Nigeria, I'm optimistic about the cargo potentials of rail. I'm really hoping rail will significantly reduce the cost of transporting good up and down the country

How far with Lagos light rail project Tinubu promised us 15 years ago?

Do we have to wait for another 15 years?

Just asking.

The Huffingthon post carried a News of the Giant Strides of the Jonathan Administration in the Health Sector , Now Reuters has cemented GEJ place in history .
One thing we must note is the fact that these are international News media outlet with one of the highest standards in the Industry

If we must judge Jonathan Let's judge him not on what the APC wants us to believe, lets judge him on the promises he has made and how many he has delivered! Its more objective

GOD BLESS NIGERIA

They speedily moved the Vanguard report to the front page. The revival of the rail transport system is work in progress. But we have definitely moved several steps forward. Those who destroyed the railways are now congregated in APC.

bilms: HELL OF TRAIN

I took a train from ilorin to lagos to confirm the said transformation and guess what? It took me 21hours to reach Lasgidi from Ilorin. On top of that train, you would notice multitude of people, but guess what? Contrary to what people are saying, they didnt climb it for free, they paid equal money with those inside.

The railway staffs would sell 2500 tickets when the train can only accommodate 900 people and when the people that couldn't get a sit request for refund, they would say it is none refundable. full article coming soon

^^ In spite of the propaganda, the trains are still filled to the brim. Over crowding is a major issue. Even in that Vanguard report, the train didn't fill up at take off but it filled up on the way.

Yes there are challenges with services, but that too will be sorted out. The govt that brought trains back to life will solve the challenges passengers are currently encountering.

Most importantly, those who supervised the destruction of the railways are now in APC and Nigerians will not touch them with 10 metre pole. Under these wicked leaders, Nigerians did not see railways, whether slow moving or even stationary ones. Now they can see railways moving passengers and goods. A bird at hand is worth more than two in the bush.

When you read what you dont want to hear, the next thing is to concoct conspiracy theories to discredit the report. So who paid Vanguard to write the report currently on the front page?

And by the way, why are you guys so much anti-positive news? Why do you CELEBRATE any form of negative news or challenges written about your country? Is it all about politics? Has politics become madness in this country?
