AGF, Aondoakaa, Finance Minister, Shamsudeen At War Over Soludo
Shamsudeen Insists On Yakubu Taking Soludo's Job From KOLA JIMOH, Abuja
A major rift is said to be raging between the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, AGF, Chief Michael Aondoakaa, on one hand, and Minister of Finance, Shamsudeen Usman, and the Economic Adviser to the President, Alhaji Tanimu Yakubu, on the other hand, over alleged desperate moves by the latter to humiliate the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Prof. Charles Soludo, out of President Umar Yar'Adua's Administration. Investigations by National Mirror revealed however, that in spite of on-going public outcry against the plot to ease-off Prof. Soludo from the administration, his days are numbered there-in. A dependable source told National Mirror that even though the AGF was initially part of the plot, he later changed his mind following indications that there was a sinister motive at the back of the minds of the duo of Usman and Yakubu in seeking Soludo's indictment as a result of the CBN's investment in the African Finance Corporation (AFC) The source told us that the AGF even felt seriously bad that the two other officials lured him into playing major roles initially towards indicting Soludo in the African Finance Corporation (AFC) deal, upon which they had convinced President Yar'Adua to drop Soludo immediately after investigations. It was gathered that the group had already positioned Yakubu, who hails from Katsina State, and was the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank (FMB) to take over Soludo's job. Our source revealed that attempts by the Finance Minister and Economic Adviser to woo back the AGF into their fold yielded no results, as the AGF turned into advising them to now jettison the plan because of serious sentiments that now greet the witch hunt of Soludo. The AGF was recently alleged to have told them that he would not like to be associated with the action that has been vividly seen as against a sectional interest. Both Usman and Yakubu, who wield great influence on President Yar'Adua are alleged to have continued to pile much pressure on President Yar'Adua to turn deaf ears to whatever public reactions that are trailing the matter. The Finance Minister was said to have felt that whether the AFC deal provides enough reasons morally to indict Soludo or not, was not his concern, as he was only looking for any opportunity to discredit the CBN helmsman and humiliate him out of the YarAdua's Administration. He was also said to be glad that his first attempt at hitting Soludo, when he made the president to disown the CBN Governor over plan to denominate the naira in the early days of the administration, was a huge success. It would be recalled that Soludo and Usman had serious disagreements when both were in the apex bank.
