During the Google I/O 2014 conference. The Android L was unveiled. This new android OS boasts a lot of performance and UI tweaks. In my opinion I think it's the best Google has made so far. Developer Preview Images are already available for the Nexus 5 & 7.

It is really smooth visually.
One understated feature is the new multi-tasking feature that lets you jump between open Activities/pages/states in an application.
