The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the outcome of the Ekiti State gubernatorial election in court was consistentwith the flaw in the character of the party.The PDP, therefore, warned theAPC that even in resolve to go to court, the people of Ekiti must be allowed to enjoy the peaceful environment that pervades the state.In an interview with reporters in Abuja at the weekend, the Special Adviser to the Presidenton Political Matters, Professor Ahmed Alkali insisted that the Ekiti election was transparent and free of rancour.He said even though many people were surprised that Governor Fayemi immediately accepted the result and congratulated Fayose, the PDP was not as it had led the way inconceding victory in past gubernatorial elections.“First and foremost, let me say that today, the world is a witness about what happened in Ekiti state. It is well known that the election was conducted free of rancour, transparently and the outcome was decisive in favour of our party,” Alkali said.“We have thought that with thenew face emerging now where people accept defeats when they know they have lost, I think it should be allowed to grow so that we can now begin to mature as a democracy.”The presidential aide added that it was unfortunate that theAPC was now keen on a legal battle after its candidate already extended a hand of friendship to the governor-elect.
