What explains the Christian antipathy towards wisdom and knowledge?  Could it be explain by the following?


Eccl. 1:18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

1 Cor.1:19: "For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."

I know there are many other verses in the bible extolling the virtues of wisdom.  But why would a book, inspired by the same omniscient being have such diametrical contradictions?


Why have these two verses come to define the cognitive approach of the majority of Christians?

Job 12:13

“But true wisdom and power are found in God;counsel and understanding are his.

Job 28:28
And this is what he says to all humanity:‘The fear of the Lord is true wisdom;to forsake evil is real understanding.’”

Actually yours is the one taken out of context.

Wisdom of the wise, are people like yourself, who rely solely on themselves and making themselves a god.
You feel no need to listen to a higher power, but instead you listen to yourself and see yourself as wise, when infact your wisdom is highly limited, you are human and very flawed.
You rely on a wisdom that is heavily flawed.
People like you are who the Bible is speaking of when it says the wisdom of the wise.

Those who feel they know it all, those who feel they have all the power in the world, those who are prideful, and those who don't realise how little they know.

Jesus said that we should become like Children, meaning we should be humble. The adults are the ones that feel they know it all because they have this so called knowledge, not realising that the basic tenets of living with neighbours are best learnt from children, humility, love, and compassion.
Even from the babes in the hospital, they lay next to each other, tolerant from each other, not screaming you are christian and I am muslim therefore I cannot lay next to you.

So you view it from the wrong angle.

The Bible is speaking of your wisdom and calling it foolish.

Hux, go back and read the first 17 verses of Ecc 1. It is refering to people like you who think that wisdom is only in the number of books and hifalutin scientific terminology you can bluster. It refers to people wise in their own conceit, it refers to people who think they have no use for God since they now know what 99% of the population dont.

The bible extols the virtue of acquiring knowledge . . . it however warns of the dangers of such knowledge to those who become puffed up with so much knowledge that they no longer feel a need for God.

As usual, standing scripture on its head.
