PoliticsRe: Jonathan Told The Truth On Nigeria's Corruption Rating by 1800bc(f): 10:22am On Oct 02, 2012
Gbawe: I have already commented elsewhere about this pathetic attempt to spin GEJ out of trouble. I really cannot understand why some of you are supporting blatant dishonesty to the point you reject what is very obvious to even a child.

Perhaps a simple example will make things clear. I am director of a company only between 2010 and 2011. Profit has officially fallen under my leadership. I then talk , at a shareholders meeting, about profit being greater in 2011 than 2001. How many of you , if shareholders, will not lambaste me for my dishonest effort to use the good work of others to mask my officially document failing for the period I have been in charge? Like I concluded elsewhere, this so-called proof that GEJ is telling the "truth" is more spam attempting to bombard folks with deceit till they give in and accept deceit as 'truth'. This sycophantic efforts only makes things worse for GEJ. Mark my word, opposition Parties, prominent Nigerians and social critics will pick up what I have noted and they will conclude the same thing. GEJ was attempting to deceive Nigerians.
hmmmn... you speak or do i say comment like a semi-literate person! what kinda example is that? how can you compare running a company with a Nation? Ur perspective sounds very narrow and cant be used as a point regardless of whether u have commented somewhere else or not...

PoliticsNigeria Is A Force by 1800bc(op): 7:09am On Sep 07, 2012
Fifa president, Sepp Blatter on Thursday branded Nigeria as a powerful force in the women's game.
Nigeria's Under20 women's team, the Falconets, have reached the last of the Fifa World Cup in their age category in two successive competitionsincluding this year's edition in Japan.
Blatter also attributed the growth of women's football in Africa to Nigeria.
“Nigeria has not only shown great potential and ability in the men’s game; she has continued to exert strength and direction in the women’s game. Thanks to Nigeria, women football in Africa is becoming stronger in strength and enterprise, and we are the happier for it as a world body.
“The Falconets finished second at the FIFA Under20 Women’s World Cup in Germany, and now have the opportunity to take the bronze after losing in the semifinal against the USA. They will be very strong against the host nation (Japan) for the bronze medal match and anythingcan happen,” said Blatter while speaking at a Fifabanquet for the teams remaining in the tournament in Tokyo on Thursday.
Blatter also used the opportunity to reinforce his conviction that the future of football is feminine.
“I remember very well that when at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Germany, the final was between USA and Japan and Japan wastriumphant. At the 2012 Olympic Games Women’sFootball Tournament in London few weeks ago, the final was also between USA and Japan, but this time, USA was triumphant.
“Yet, in all my years in football, I have never seen a losing team in the final so happy. They lost but they were happy, because they knew they already put their best efforts and these were not enough. I wish this can also happen in the men’s game.
“I must also use this opportunity to commend the huge steps that Japan and indeed other Asian countries have taken in women’s football,” said Blatter.
The Falconets face Japan in the third place on Saturday while the USA go up against reigning champions, Germany in the final same day

PoliticsJonathan Right On Ushe’s Nomination As Defence Minister - Rev Mani by 1800bc(op): 5:07pm On Sep 05, 2012
The National Patron of Zuru Emirate Development Association and Bishop of Maiduguri Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Rt. Reverend Emmanuel Kana Mani, during the week, hosted newsmen in his court where he spoke on the nomination of General Bitrus Ushe from Kebbi State as Defence Minister. James Bwala brings excerpts:

CAN you explain what Zuru Emirate Development Association is all about?

The association is a political arm of the Zuru Emirate under the chairmanship of General Sani Sami. The Zurus are one of the minorities in the Nigerian states. Some people say we belong to the Middle Belt but the journalists perhaps know this better. As a people, we are like the Zulus in South Africa; we are warriors and have not been defeated by any invader because almost everybody in Zuru Emirate is a soldier. This is because during the West African Frontier Force, when people from the North were being taken, concentration was mainly on our area given the kind of bravery we exuded. We excelled both in the military and in the field of education, even as minority.

The issue now is that there has been, in a general term, what is known as marginalisation and in our case, a terrible marginalisation. Since the return of democracy in 1999, we have observed that political appointments are concentrated in one side or particular the area where people think they are born to rule, thus leaving out the sons and daughters of Zuru Emirate. Even in national appointments, they tried to block sons and daughters of Zuru Emirate.

Was there any protest to that effect?
The Secretary to the State Government(SSG)kicked against it, being a son of Zuru emirate and he demanded for a reason as to why the sharing formula was not equal. They gave flimsy excuses categorising the emirate into hierarchy even where the Emirs are all first class. General Sami is a well known figure who served this nation as a military governor. So the SSG had to force them to adjust to an equal sharing, otherwise we would have been left out. Now with the sack of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Bello Haliru, we just feel that the nomination of a Zuru son, General Ushe is apt and appropriate.

It looks as if the nomination of General Ushe is not widely accepted. Why?
I wonder which is most appropriate in the appointment of a person as Minister of Defence; a soldier who understands the military terms or a civilian who knows very little about military as an organised formation. I see the opposition as an attempt to undermine the Zuru Emirate and I wish to state that we have been marginalised politically for too long. In this wise, we stand with one voice to support our brother and a son of Zuru Emirate in his nomination as the Defense Minister and would do everything possible to support him in ensuring that he succeeds as a minister.

Are you saying the nomination of General Ushe as Defence Minister is acceptable to majority of people in Zuru Emirate?
The people of Zuru Emirate, which comprises four local government areas of Kebbi State, are in full support of the nomination of Brigadier-General Bitrus Boka Ushe as Minister of Defence because his nomination will bring an end to the 13 years of marginalisation suffered by the emirate since the return of democratic rule in 1999. Therefore, his nomination is a welcome development. It will make the citizens of the Zuru Emirate to begin to have the feeling of a sense of belonging. Our people frowned at the statement credited to the Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the rejection of Ushe as a ministerial nominee.

The motive of the opponent is to misinform the public and influence the nomination of Mr Ushe. Those making unjustifiable noise over the nomination of Ushe are enemies of the progress of our emirate who always hide under the guise of sentiment to jeopardise the prevailing peace among various ethno-religious groups of the state. Their motive is to ensure that top public appointments are concentrated only in a particular section of the North. The entire sons and daughters of Zuru Emirate are very glad for this gesture from President Goodluck Jonathan which will serve as the beginning of bye-bye to the marginalisation of our area in terms of public appointments. We really commend President Goodluck Jonathan for his foresight and fair play for considering one of us as fit for ministerial post, which has once again demonstrated his respect for equity to all.

PoliticsNew N5,000: Don’t Wake Fela’s Mom – Kalu by 1800bc(op): 8:10pm On Aug 29, 2012
As debate rages over the planned introduction of 5,000 naira notes by the Central Bank, former Abia state governor Dr.Orji Uzor Kalu has advised the apex bank to consider what the trio of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti,Margaret Ekpo and Gambo Sawaba stood for.
Kalu reminisced that the women whose images will adorn the new note fought for the masses and could be forced to squirm in their graves if the cries of the people became too much to bear.
He said,”I am not an economist,i respect the Central Bank Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.I just hope the Economic team did their homework so well.I have heard also the voices of so many Nigerians.I must caution that whatever will not benefit the masses should not be considered. In this case,i know that those three women shook Nigeria in their days.’Beere’ as Prof. Wole Soyinka calls his aunt Mrs.Ransome-Kuti,[Afro musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti's mom] in his book ‘Ake’ was so powerful that she traumatised an Alake of Egbaland.Margaret Ekpo led the Aba Women’s Riot of 1929,while Sawaba was a fiery fighter.”
The ex-governor explained that his experience as an international businessman showed that most African countries who chose to print higher denominations ended up producing millions of multi-millionaires who could not put three square meals on the tables of their families.
“I had a journalist friend who travelled to Mobutu Sese Seko’s Zaire in 1991 to cover soccer. He came back with millions of their currency. We taunted him that he became a Millionaire overnight, yet his car was begging for attention.Another friend was in Robert Mugabe’s Zimbabwe. When told that his hotel bill ran into millions of dollars,he almost died of heart failure. It took quite some time to convince him that one million Zim dollars could barely match the US dollar”,Kalu added.
He also cautioned against placing Nigeria on the same table as the Western world whenever reforms were going to be forced on the common man.
“Somebody talks about Japan having 10,000 Yen notes. The only thing we have in common with the Japanese is huge population. That is a country with no natural resources, yet they have been able to conquer poverty.I think we should focus on making life meaningful to the masses before we target some of these verbose reforms”,Kalu said.

PoliticsNSCDC Arrests 10 Cyber Job Recruitment Fraudsters by 1800bc(op): 7:19am On Aug 28, 2012
THE management of the Nigeria Security and CivilDefence Corps (NSCDC) has warned job seekers against the ploy by internet fraudsters who specialise in creating fake websites for the purpose of advertising job vacancies on behalf of organisations.
The corps said it had, in the last three months, arrested 10 persons at different locations in connection with illegal job application websites and extortion of money from members of the public under the pretence that they were going to offer them job into different services, includingthe NSCDC.
Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Mr Emmanuel Okeh, in a statement in Abuja on Monday, said it was observable that the fraudsters had devised means of defrauding job seekers through the internet in view of the high rate of unemployment in the country.
He specifically warned that the Corps recruitmentexercise in the past had never been through any website, purchase of scratch or application forms, rather, by placement of advertisement in national dailies by the Corps, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Service boards.
Mr Okeh further said that job seekers should, therefore, desist from patronising those who, through the websites, were demanding money for recruitment.
“The Corps did not at any time commission or hireconsultants and agents on job/recruitment matters and it has no intention for such,” he said, adding that applicants should exercise restraints and be careful of fraudsters as the corps would not take responsibility for anyone who, as a matter of fact, patronised website and job scammers by paying money.
He said: “The Corps, however, is not sleeping overthe matter, as frantic efforts are being made to get those behind the scam.”

PoliticsPHCN Operating Illegal Pension Scheme - Nnaji, Koripamo-agary by 1800bc(op): 9:03am On Aug 17, 2012
MINISTER of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji and theFederal Govern-ment’s chief negotiator in the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN),/labour crisis, Dr Timiebi Koripamo-Agary, on Thursday, said the PHCN and the trade unions have been operating illegal pension scheme since 2007, in disregard to the Pension Reform Act 2004.
Speaking at a media forum in Lagos, they insistedthat the government would not allow the lawlessness to continue, as President Goodluck Jonathan had also directed that the law of the country must be followed, because Nigeria is a nation governed by rules of law.
Professor Nnaji, who spoke on the efforts by the government to ensure effective power supply, through the privati-sation agenda and the ongoing reform process, said the privatisation must be concluded while the reforms must go on.
He, however, pointed out that the only obstacle to the reform process in the power sector was thelabour movement, regretting that for 14 months, government had been negotiating with labour with no tangible progress recorded.
