PoliticsRe: Change In Focus Of NL Politics Section by 1800bc(f): 3:12pm On Jul 31, 2012
HNosegbe: Actually I disagree with this. There have been some excellent threads on NL Politics section. An example is that thread some months back about "The destruction of black civilization". There was also one about providing practical solutions to Nigeria's problems. Beaf also once created a thread asking what we have done to hold our governors and LG chairmen accountable.

While I agree that most threads have been filled with unwarranted hate and abuse, I certainly don't think that "all we talk about here is trash".
you are a sensible fellow.

PoliticsN500m Scam: Resign Now, PDP Tells Ikuforiji by 1800bc(op): 9:09am On Jul 31, 2012
THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday called for the resignation of the speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji over alleged N500 million scam.

The PDP noted that it was disheartening and unfortunate that in spite of the progressive posture of the party, no chieftain of the ACN has been prosecuted in its controlled states despite what the PDP described as ‘’the barrage of cases of misconduct in these states.”

Reacting to call by the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN that the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur must step down now, the PDP said, “The ACN has also turned the other way in the case of a N500 million fraud allegation against the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. There has been no call for the Speaker to resign. Till date, there is no record of any ACN official or chieftain standing trial in any ACN controlled State despite the barrage of cases of misconduct in these states”.

It will be recalled that son of the PDP National Chairman, Mahmud Tukur; Mamman Nasir, son of the former National Chairman, Dr Ahmadu Ali and Abdullai Alao, son of Chief Arisekola Alao are presently standing trial before a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja for alleged offences in the oil subsidy payment scam.

Metuh who noted that there was the need for the PDP to put the record straight, said, “However, in order to set the records straight especially in the minds of those who may be swayed by the ACN’s warped logic, we wish to state categorically that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Dr Bamanga Tukur, is not on trial, neither has he been linked to any of the allegations on the current petroleum subsidy trials.

PoliticsJos Flood: UN Commends Nema's Swift Response by 1800bc(op): 8:49am On Jul 31, 2012
The United Nations (UN) has commended the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for its swift response and approach to disaster management in Nigeria.

The commendation came after the Coordinator of Humanitarian Assistance of the United Nations, Mr. Ayo Ajayi went round to assess the humanitarian situation of the displaced flood victims in Jos, Plateau State, in the company of the NEMA team.

Ajayi said he was happy with NEMA’s approach to the disaster and its wisdom in inviting the UN to complement the Federal Government’s effort in managing disasters in Nigeria.

In his earlier remarks, the Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sidi said the Agency has delivered relief materials worth millions of naira to the displaced flood victims.

The Director General, who was represented by Mr. Ben Oghena, assistant Director of Planning, Research and Forecasting, noted that NEMA had earlier given early warning signals on flooding in the country including the affected areas.

PoliticsImpeachment: No Cause For Alarm, Says Mark by 1800bc(op): 7:44am On Jul 27, 2012
Senate President, Senator David Mark, Thursday dispelled the anxiety generated by the impeachment threat from the lower chamber of the National Assembly, saying Nigerians should not worry themselves over impeachment.

Speaking with journalists in Umuahia, after declaring open the retreat of Senate Press Corps, Mark said both the Senate and the House of Representatives were working together for the good of the nation.

The Senate President advised Nigerians not to bother themselves over any impeachment move on President Goodluck Jonathan, noting that every Nigerian, “is a stakeholder in the democratic project”, hence the need for all hands to be on deck to sustain the nation’s democratic governance.

Speaking also, Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, urged the Nigerian media to promote good governance and arouse the patriotism in the populace.

He lamented that it was Nigerians who were fond of insinuating bad things about their country, when ordinarily they should be passionate about promoting their fatherland

PoliticsEXCLUSIVE: Nigeria’s Biggest Oil Fraudsters; The Worst Subsidy Scam Ever by 1800bc(op): 10:36am On Jul 26, 2012
Nigeria has never seen anything like it. This story explains how unscrupulous marketers fleeced the nation of N382 billion without supplying a drop of petrol

The scale is huge; the method daring and unprecedented. The plot seems like one in a James Bond movie as unscrupulous Nigerian businessmen scripted an unbelievable heist.

It was a grand deceit, never seen in Nigeria’s history. To benefit from the 2011 fuel subsidy largesse, the oil companies “manufactured” fictional oil ships (vessels)  they claimed traversed seas and oceans of the world carrying imaginary petrol, with Nigeria the final destination of the product, the Technical Committee set up by the Federal Government discovered.

For supplying this phantom product to Nigeria, the seven companies involved pocketed a princely N13 billion naira from the 2011 fuel subsidy payments, the committee’s report, secured by PREMIUM TIMES, stated.

Some other companies, not wanting to create fictional vessels, decided to space- travel existing ones; such that real vessels, which were definitely in countries like China and UAE, discharged petrol into storage depots in Nigeria at the exact time they were in those other countries.  The 11 companies involved in this category of fraud pocketed N21 billion from the 2011 subsidy payments, the report stated.

PoliticsSuswam Locks Out Commissioners, Others Over Lateness by 1800bc(op): 9:48am On Jul 26, 2012
FOR arriving late to the Benue State Executive Council meeting yesterday, three members of the body were locked out of the parley on the orders of Governor Gabriel Suswam.

Those locked out included the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Benjamin Ashaver, his Youths and Sports counterpart, Mr. Aondowase Chia, as well as the Head of Service, Mr. Mike Iordye.

They were said to have arrived after the executive council meeting had started and this irked the governor, who ordered that the affected exco members be shut out.

Some security officials, who confided in The Guardian, said many commissioners and aides were in the habit of turning up late at functions, noting that the governor had not been happy with the ugly trend.

When the Information Commissioner, Conrad Wegba, was contacted on the matter, he said he was not aware of it.

Suswam had recently at the flagging off of this year’s sale of fertiliser warned that it would no longer be business as usual for the lackadaisical attitudes of his aides and commissioners, and was alleged to have said: “I will no longer tolerate nonsense from anyone again, after all am not seeking for any re-election.”

Wed, 07/25/2012 - 22:50
Lagos State Government has alerted members of the public to be wary of conmen currently obtaining money under false pretences from Christian pilgrims planning to embark on 2012 pilgrimage exercise to Jerusalem.

In a statement made available to journalists, the state government said the fraudsters had been disguising as consultants to the state government with the intention to defraud unsuspecting residents. Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Oyinlomo Danmole warned the public to be wary of such unscrupulous persons operating under the name of ‘CITTI TWELVE (12) Limited’ with office at 14, Akeem Balogun Street, Agidingbi Ikeja.
The commissioner, who said the government enforcement team had deployed security and law enforcement personnel to fish out the fraudsters, urged the public and prospective pilgrims not to have any dealings with them.

According to him, “All prospective pilgrims and members of the public are hereby informed that the Lagos State Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board has not appointed any organisation or agency as consultant on Christian pilgrimage.
