These numbers are highly deceptive. The fact is that like many other religions, Muslims have been very dishonest in the way they report their numbers. For instance, they count new converts to Islam, but they totally ignore all those who leave Islam. It is estimated that 75% of new Muslim converts leave the religion within 3 years, and plenty of people who were born into it also leave but are never deducted from the total. There's also the fact that leaving Islam is punishable by death in most predominantly Muslim countries so plenty of people have to pretend to still be Muslims even when they don't believe.

Then some of the figures are just straight up lies, like the 75% one about Nigeria for one. Nigerian Muslims always ignore the significant number of Christians and other non-muslims in the north, people who are Muslim only in name, as well as the fact that Christianity and Islam are not the only 2 religions in Nigeria.

Islam maintains its numbers mainly by indoctrinating children, and using the power of government to repress free thought and enforce conformity among the people. The numbers of adult converts is negligible and more than balanced by those who leave.

Its not even clear that Islam is growing at all, not to talk of it being the fastest growing religion in the world as the often claim. All the evidence I've seen for this claim is either circular or just someone's opinion being repeated as fact. In all likelihood Islam is shrinking just like Christianity, Buddhism and virtually all other major religions. Improved personal security, increased knowledge, and recently, the internet have made it far more difficult to convince young people of their bullshît or to prevent believers from seeing contrary evidence like in the olden days. It will all become very clear over the next few decades.
