Algeria’s Djamel Haimoudi has been
confirmed as the referee for the third-
place match of the ongoing 2014 FIFA
World Cup between Brazil and The
Netherlands on Saturday.
A statement from FIFA Media Office said
Haimoudi will become the first
Confederation of African Football (CAF)
referee to officiate a third-place match of
a FIFA World Cup.
“The match will be the 43-year-old’s
fourth task at the competition after the
group stage matches between Australia
and The Netherlands, and Costa Rica and
England.
“He also handled the Round of 16 match
between Belgium and the U.S.
“In his career, Haimoudi oversaw two
matches in last year’s FIFA Confederations
Cup, also in Brazil, and he was selected
for the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan in
2012.
“He was also selected for the FIFA U-20
World Cup in Colombia in 2011.
“Haimoudi also has notable experience in
his confederation CAF, taking charge at
three editions of the Africa Cup of Nations
— in 2008, 2012 and 2013.
“At the end of the most recent edition in
2013, he refereed Nigeria versus Burkina
Faso in the final.
“Finally, the Algerian officiated four more
important final matches, including the
deciders for the CAF Champions League
2008, 2012 and 2013 and the CAF Super
Cup 2008,’’ the statement said.(NAN)
