If Bola Ige Was Cheaply Assasinated...[iyiola Omisore Contesting?] by citydehunter: 1:29pm On Jul 18, 2014
On a wonderfully bright day [September 13, 1930 to be precise], an infant made his way through to this world, born in Zaria, near Kaduna in the northern Nigeria. His parents were Yoruba natives of Esa-Oke town, in the old Oyo State (now Osun State). He left Kaduna and headed south to the Western region at the age of 14. He studied at Ibadan Grammar School, the University of Ibadan and the University College London where he graduated with a Law degree in 1959. He was called to the bar in London's Inner Temple in 1961. He was a Commissioner for Agriculture in the now-defunct Western Region of Nigeria. During the first period of military rule, he devoted his time to the anti-racism campaign. He was a founder member of the influential Yoruba pressure group, Afenifere. He was about to take up a new position as African's Representative on the United Nations International Law Commission when he was gunned down in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on the 23rd December 2001. President Olusegun Obasanjo deployed troops in south-western Nigeria to try to prevent a violent reaction to the murder [a reason to believe no drug baron killed him]. Although various people were arrested and tried for involvement in the murder, including Iyiola Omisore, all were acquitted [all acquitted? how insensitive!]. The outgoing president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo has of 2007 stated that the late attorney General of the Federation was killed by drug barons [how degrading! a reputable attorney who had no link with drugs and was shot at his residence]. As of November 2010 the killers [whether drug barons or not] had not been found. Even till today, nothing has being said nor done to find out who assassinated such a valiant man. Now even a prime suspect of his assassination has suddenly sprung to contest for the gubernatorial election of Osun state [I'm stating this not for any sentimental reason but the truth out to be said either ways].
Now, if Bola Ige was cheaply murder by whoever it was that sent assassins after him [Politicians i presume], whose life is secure? If a reputable man such as Bola Ige's fading out of Nigerian's memory this fast, whose will remain? If the controversial death of this prominent icon wasn't investigated, whose will be? Will Nigerians stand to the unjust demise of great icons whose case just like this man's fading out? Are our journalists still powerless in this computer age? Are we going to be forever bought by the sugar-coated demise stories being fed us? Remember, we all could do one or two things to propagate an investigation.
