My gearbox was ruined by my relative and I have learnt the hard way.

I am looking for gearbox for 2007 Toyota Camry, 22 PIN, V6, Sports Edition (TRD).

I plan ordering from the States but that will take at least 1 month. If I can get good transmission at reasonable price in Nigeria I will buy.

Anyone who has a reliable seller should contact me.

Hard luck man I don't envy you at all last time I tried to buy that gear box in lagos the seller gave 2 conditions b4 selling with a guarantee.

1. I must buy transmission oil provided by him.( It was very good oil)
2.His technician will install gearbox (very ridiculous fee considering I could do the job my self.)
I ended up buying it from an accidented car in the north. Cost of the entire car was almost at par with the price of the gear, was a good deal.

Have you tried siena? He's in the u.k

I am making plans to buy from the States but if I see good one within Nigeria I will buy. So I will leave both options open for now since its impossible to buy brand new one, even the ones in USA are from fatal accident cars.

I wouldn't mind if seller wants me to use transmission oil provided by him plus his technician, I have no problem with such conditions as long as the transmission will work I don't mind. What I wont do is someone selling me an item without guarantee, thats the problem am facing with Lagos sellers. They say once the product leaves their shop there is no return policy, which means gambling with 450,000 Naira?

I will give you a number to call that may solve your Transmission problem once and for all.
When I had serious issues with my 2007 Accord transmission 2 years ago this was the person that fixed it for us. He advised us about the danger in buying a replacement.....There is no assurance that it will work. And truly I know a dude who ended up buying up to 5 different gear boxes before he was able to find one to work for his own Accord. That is not funny!

Long story short we agreed that he should fix the damaged one in my car instead. He assured us of a good job and after 3 days he called me to come and pick my car! Alas my gear had been fixed and back in shape. I drove round town for about an hour to be sure it was okay and yes it was, this was the same car that was towed from Ijebu-ode to Lagos. I used that same Tranny for more than two years thereafter and it never developed any issue again!

Dude is in Opebi.
If you want the number I'll oblige you. But you haven't told us exactly how your gear got damaged.

Like i said earlier, save yourself the stress. You can also try to order from toyota themselves. You may discover that its not even as expensive as you may think. Look for their number and give them a call.

Order from Toyota Direct and it will cost less? I doubt.

Reason: You will only get brand new Gear Box from Toyota Certified Dealers not Toyota themselves. A customer does not just walk into Toyota Manufacturing Plant Boss. They have certified Dealers they ship to after manufacturing and that is where the customer has access.

Besides the last time I checked 'Honda place' in Lagos for a brand new replacement for my 2007 Accord Transmission, the white guy there told me it's 1.2M last! I just laffed, how much I buy the car? cheesy

Yea you are right...i forgot to make that clear about the certified dealers.. buying it abroad from certified dealers would be 100% cheaper than buying from nigeria certified dealers

Thanks for your inputs. What damaged my car transmission was bad transmission oil. Car was shipped from USA and I was not in Nigeria when it arrived. My relative who received the car changed the gearbox oil without my permission.

Car was a very good car and in very good shape, it has only 1 owner and well maintained. When car arrived Nigeria i told my relative to service the car (change engine oil) and drive the car to my house in the East but my relative serviced the gearbox. The problem is that he used the cheapest and worst transmission oil, ARBRO. He never told me till it was too late.

I didn't know he changed transmission oil and he didn't tell me. I drove the car for like 4 weeks, at some point the transmission started acting up, when on highway it takes time to change gear and car jerks after gear change. Call my mechanic and we took the car to a specialist in Enugu, that was how we got to know that my relative used Abro transmission oil to service d gearbox.

The story is very long but so far 4 different gearbox specialists from Aba, Onitsha, Port Harcourt and Benin have serviced the transmission at one point or another. I have spent close to 300,000 Naira since last year, servicing the transmission. Each expert will find a fault and request for money to buy parts from Onitsha or Lagos, plus transmission oil that costs 20k per gallon. After each repair the transmission will develop fault again within few weeks, i call another so called transmission expert and we start the experiment again.

I went to Enugu last 3 weeks the gearbox packed up on the highway, i have towed the car to my compound. I am not interested to spent even 20k servicing the gearbox anymore bc theirs no guarantee it will work, I just want to change the transmission entirely.

As it stands now it seems the best option is to buy the transmission from USA, I will follow that option. But people are confusing me. They say I should buy gearbox that is still attached with the car engine. That most gearbox they sell separately are not good? I am getting more confused by the day. My car engine is very sound and well maintained, I don't need another engine but if that's the only way i can get a very sound gearbox then I will do that.

Hhmmmmm. I feel you.
But getting a sound gear box now is the problem. Order from USA but be sure to order from a Toyota Certified Dealer. A brand new replacement is your best bet as it stands. But will be very dear.

The other option is to contact this my Gear Specialist who can help you source for an original replacement within Lagos, couple it for you and will use the recommended Transmission Fluid in filling it. But since you are based in the East I don't know how that option will suffice. But if you still want him to help you source for a good one to buy and ship to the East, you can give him a call.

sometimes, while doing that which you know how to do best, one could find himself in difficult situations, and its only natural to ask you neighbor for help. I believe you must have found yourself in such a situation once or twice. Still on the post you have referred to, I had to get myself a new gear box after sampling opinions frm other seasoned techs cos not all gearbox problems can be repaired. God bless you sir.

For all i know about this country, what is most lacking are QUALIFIED Auto electricians and transmission specialists. Had a similar issue with a 2005 Camry LE and a guy "fixed" it. He wanted to use Dexron 2 while it specifically called for ATF T-4. I had to insist and bought the T4 myself.

After spending like N60k, the gear is better but not good. I had to buy from the states which is what i wanted to do in the 1st place.

You don't have to buy from Toyota Dealership, you can find auto dismantlers all over USA that will sell for you. They are removed form accidented cars.

Its better you do it right the 1st time. Even if it cost you time.

If i have a vehicle shipping, i would just help u put inside and u pick up from here. YOU PAY FOR THE TRANSMISSION UPFRONT THOUGH.

Let me know how you have it resolved.

Thanks for your input, yes I agree the best option is to buy from USA. I have made inquiries in US. First contact said $1,650 and second contact said $1,800. I plan wiring them money by next month but what I am yet to confirm is how they will ship the transmission to Nigeria.

When I shipped this same car from US, the shipping company removed the front bumper that i put in the back seat, they said its not allowed in RORO. The spare bumber was given to the car owner by Toyota when he bought the car brand new, so after i bought the car he handed over everything to me including the bumber.

So I wanted to know, the car you will be shipping, is it container or RORO? How much can you get a good gearbox and how much is the clearing?

Not really, a genuine Toyota T4 transmission fluid will cost about N25k for about 6 litres

While a Honda Original transmission oil will cost N30k for 6 litres

You will need about that much if fully drained

Anything else might get u in trouble
